Commercial Description:
Celebrating 20 years of remarkably good taste! Characterized by a medium-body & dry well-balanced finish, this deep brown porter brewed with Dutch cocoa and pure raspberry extract evokes chocolate, caramel and fresh tart raspberries. Keeping our specialty product cool, still & dark pays rewards in flavor changes over the next year or more.

poured from a huge bottle at DLD. not that good. it’s not even pitch black like a porter is supposed to be. in fact, it’s not a porter at all. it’s dark brown, but still largely translucent. pretty carbonated too. flavor is all sourness, and it’s not even really a raspberry flavor. i have no idea what this beer is, but it’s not a porter and it’s hardly raspberries. it’s just a weird artificial sour carbonated beverage. why do raspberry beers so consistently let me down?

Pours a dark brown with a small tan nappy head. Aroma has a creamy chocolate rummy tone to it. Flavor is quite different. Very tart. Sour malts, cocoa, and fruits. Not bad but is sort of weird.

I can’t believe the Sprecher brewery still had a few bottles left. Pours a dark reddish brown body with a thin, tan head. Aroma is slightly tart, fruity, with roasted barley malt. Taste immediately has tart, cranberry/raspberry, sweet chocolate and roasted malt. The body is smooth and creamy. The bitterness finish is average at best. Very good. I can hardly wait for their 25th Anniversary brew.

Sprecher Generation Porter pours a deep, dark brown color with a large, foamy (tiny bubbles) tan-colored head that has good retention and leaves some thin lacing. The aroma is raspberry jam with some dark chocolate sauce in the background (more raspberry than chocolate in the nose). The flavor is just the opposite with more chocolate than raspberry and a hint of roastiness. The finish is more dry and has a dark chocolate bitterness and cocoa flavor. The aroma and flavor of this beer is very much like those Ghirardelli Dark Chocolate with Raspberry Filling Squares. I originally picked this up for my wife and she has proclaimed it to be "pretty good!" She also said, "I like this beer" which is really unbelieveable (there aren’t too many beers that she actually likes). The body of this beer is medium to medium-full body and is smooth and creamy on the palate. It isn’t quite as heavy as expected, but very good nonetheless. I was pleasantly surprised by this beer and happy that my wife enjoyed it as well. 16 oz botle from Sam’s Wine & Spirits (Downers Grove).

Black pour, moderate head, decent to good lacing and retention. Aroma is dark cherries, darker fruits, raspberries, chocolate, hint of roast. Flavor brings this, but they don’t meld well together. It’s like having Star Wars and Star Trek fans each tell you that their series is the best.. it just doesn’t work when put them together.

Light raspberry aroma, and I perceived this without realizing raspberry was an ingredient so that did that part right. Aroma with cocoa. Flavor is raspberry syrup and chocolate. 6 4 7 3 13 Tasted again, July 2009. Good raspberry flavor with light cocoa, and a little sourness. Mildly roasted.

16oz bottle-Black body with a tan head that dissipates quickly. Aroma of raspberry and sweetness. Taste of raspberry , rosted malt and more raspberry. Not much cocoa taste. A little weak and watery for a porter. Has potential.

The aroma smelled of chocolate and raspberries. In appearance the average, creamy, light brown head was enticing. The head mostly diminished fairly quickly. The Clarity of the beer is similar to that of a cup of black coffee. The hue of the body is a dark brown. As for flavor, the initial taste is slightly sweet with hints of chocolate. The raspberries kick in and give the finish a sweet and tart finish that is average in duration. The palate was nice. The beer is medium bodied, creamy, with soft to average carbonation. Overall, I think it is a very tasty porter. The combination of chocolate and raspberries in a creamy porter is quite the treat. I doubt I will ever buy this beer again. Maybe if it came in a four pack and was cheaper.
