matthewjk (43), Cincinnati, Ohio, USA Oct 4, 2009 Hmmm...not what I was looking for. This beer is a bit astringent on the mouth and bitter--not in a good way. Sorry Sprecher, you don’t do this style well, but your black barvarian is amazing. drowland (1360), Tallahassee, Florida, USA Aug 22, 2009 Had at the brewpub after a tour of the place. Plenty spicey, as they claim, y’all. hombrepalo (726), Chicago, Illinois, USA Aug 10, 2009 On tap @ Simone’s. Malty banana and peppery clove aroma. Pours a dark cloudy yellowish-orange. Not much of a head. Real lemony and citrus flavors. Not much malt in the flavor. Almost all citrus up front with a pretty big clove presence in the finish with some light orange peel.
Rciesla (3500), Exit 15W, New Jersey, USA Jul 29, 2009 Bottle. Pours a hazy golden body with a white head. Banana and bubble gum with some lighter lemon grass. Some subdued spicy notes clove, cinnamon and a sweet finish. Eh. marchcow (664), Coralville, Iowa, USA Jul 25, 2009 Bright hefe aroma with notes of citrus - lemon and wheat/hay and cream. Golden yellow color with white bubbly head. Slightly bitter initial flavor with light creamed wheat, some lemon, a touch of banana, some cloves and a bit of orange rind. Medium light palate, slightly dry. Duration is bitter oranges. Narnad (681), Wonder Lake, Illinois, USA Jul 19, 2009 Pours a heavily hazed yellow with a thick, foamy white head. Aroma is a very pronounced wheat note with a good lemon note as well and a light clove spiciness. Flavor starts off with a light banana and lemon fruitiness, moves into a nice wheat flavor and finishes with a great clove presence. Yeasty flavors are pretty minimal but the density is spot on for the brew and it has a great smoothness. Overall the clove spice is the most dominate flavor in the brew and is a welcomed divergence from some of the recent hefe sampling that seem to lack any flavor. One brew I will definitely pick up again when the hefe bug comes a biting. fidelis83 (707), Clinton, Iowa, USA Jun 28, 2009 Pours a light, murky honey color with a 2-3 finger creamy white head. Aroma is wheat, cloves, banana, sourdough bread, lemon, bubblegum and a little pepper, basically all of the clasic hefe notes. Flavor is raw yeast, bubblegum, clove, lemon poppyseed bread, pepper and a little grass. Palate is thin, slightly chalky, dry throughout and has a very mild carbonation. A decent, but unremarkable hefe. tanner0042 (13), Minnesota, USA May 2, 2009 Minimal aroma, with nice appearance, smooth but not very memorable. Mild clove and banana undertones, extremely small head for a HefeWeizen
