Commercial Description:
This traditional ale was originally brewed in England for the British troops stationed in India. Double dry-hopped,it has intense hop flavors and aromas delicately balanced with a potent, yet delicious, malty sweetness.

Randy's Notes: "Our IPA is of the imperial or double style, therefore much stronger than the normal IPA's now found everywhere. It has a very balanced but different flavor than most US micro types focusing on more on malt and hop balance where CA IPA's emphasize massive hop aroma and bitterness."

Editor's Note: also known as IPA2 Double IPA.

Bottled. Amber coloured. Unclear. Beige dense head. Sweet herbal light pine and caramel. Herbs and flowers in the flavour. Is light dusty and a bit old. Fruity and light bitter end. Thanks to DavidP for trading this.

Bottled. Slightly hazy amber coloured. Apple aroma with floral and malty notes. Sweetish hoppy flavour. Dry finish.

Wow the aroma is pretty un-hoppy...lotsa caramel malt sweetness and some sweaty, dank/rank mustiness. Tea colored body with a rapidly diminishing white head. Mildly rotten bread/malt fore with a subdued, but deceptive bitterness. Normally this is the kind of IPA I go for. This is balanced, but the malt component just tastes slightly rotten/rancid and the bitterness is strange liek they used lots of flavor hops and no aroma hops.

The aroma has plenty of citrus hops, yeast, and caramel malt. The appearance is copper with an average head. The flavor is bitter with citrus and pine hops. There is also some fruit and caramel. The palate is typical for the style. I can’t quite identify it but there is something not right about this IPA, as if the flavors don’t mesh.

Amber color. Smell of malt, little hops and little citrus. Taste of hops. grapefruit, orange peal, malt and caramel. A little waterdowned for me. Has a dissapearing bitterness at the end. Still good to drink.

From a 1 pt. twist cap embossed distinctive Sprecher brown bottle with a blurb on the neck label, with a coded bottled/freshness date stamped on the shoulder of the bottle. Poured a cloudy tarnished copper with a foamy beige head that settled into a thin sudsy lacing. Aromas of caramel and coffee malts, floral and a light citrus fruity, a touch of pine needles. Moderate carbonation and softly crisp, creamy medium bodied mouthfeel, not entirely smooth, has a little roughness. A nice English IPA taste, caramel malts with a hit of coffee, some toffee flavors as well, hints of brown sugar, a soft, smooth bitterness from a subtle piney, floral and fruity hops, the alcohol starts to show up towards the end and provides a pleasant warmth in the palate, and a caramel apple finish, for me, this is very drinkable, even dangerously quaffable. I’ll admit upfront that I like most of brews from Sprecher to begin with, and I thought this was a good take on the English IPA, not overpowering hoppy like from a good AIPA, but a good malt flavor with a smooth hoppiness.

1L blue flip top bottle. Pours clear amber with a medium light tan head. Aromas of hops, some skunk and some caramel/syrup like malt. Taste has some bitter hops but seems to be dominated by lots of sweet caramel and maybe some maple syrup. Slightly creamy and a little astringent, finishes sweet and then bitter. Not bad, just not what I was expecting for an IPA.

Faint soapy aroma. First hint is a little caramel and then some malts. The hops come out at the end. Unfortunately, I get a lot of alcohol in the finish, which really sucks away from the dry hoppy graing flavor.
