Commercial Description:
This traditional ale was originally brewed in England for the British troops stationed in India. Double dry-hopped,it has intense hop flavors and aromas delicately balanced with a potent, yet delicious, malty sweetness.

Randy's Notes: "Our IPA is of the imperial or double style, therefore much stronger than the normal IPA's now found everywhere. It has a very balanced but different flavor than most US micro types focusing on more on malt and hop balance where CA IPA's emphasize massive hop aroma and bitterness."

Editor's Note: also known as IPA2 Double IPA.

16 oz. bottle. Pours a clear amber color with a small off white head that disappears quickly. The aroma has some citrus and grassy hops with an abundance of sweet caramel malt. The flavor seems to be missing much of the hops and instead is heavily influenced by the caramel malts. Medium mouthfeel. This just doesn’t present itself as a double IPA and as I was redirected, apparently many others realize this as well.

Had this beer on 6/20/2000. Aroma is a rich malt scent. Color is a very hazy lightly browned orange with good carbonation and a light head. Taste is rich and bitter. Starting with a strong medium body it goes down with a sharp bite. Finish is a sharp malt flavor that is a bit dry and is followed by a light hop bitterness. This may be the worst Pale Ale I’ve ever had. It’s too malty, unbalanced and is basically not good.

Bottle. Light barn red with a small off-white head. All hops in the aroma (mostly pine). Very crisp hoppy flavor with a bitter aftertaste. It’s pushing it to call this a double IPA, although I think hopeheads would certainly enjoy it.

1 Liter bottle picked up at Holiday Wine Cellar. Upon sniffing of the aroma a medium malt presence is detected along with a wheat or honey oat bread scent. The IPA had a watery appearance with a tiny shirt lived layer of foam. In the drink, a mild blend of caramel sweet malt and a touch of hops that gives a easy and light experience.

Poured a lightly hazy amber color with a small, off white head that left light lacing on the glass. Aroma of caramel malts, light floral hops, pine and citrus fruits. Taste of wood, citrus fruits, pine, some cardboard, and caramel malts.

This beer was expensive and, frankly, very mediocre. Almost no head on the pour and dissipates very quickly leaving a flat mouthfeel. Alcohol was well balanced but almost no aroma and not nearly bitter and hoppy enough to be a DIPA. Disappointing.

Thanks to JB175. Pour is a deep reddish/gold with nice, fluffy head. Leaves good lacing. Aroma is nice...sweet fruit with some citrusy hpps. Flavor is bitter up front and has a sweet, caramel finish. Medium to full body. Good brew.
