arkurzynski (89), West Bend, Wisconsin, USA Sep 19, 2009 Pours curtain black with thin brown head that dissipates quickly. Light roasted coffee aroma. A little over-carbonated. Flavor not overpowering and a bit on the light side. Coffee and brown sugar with an acidic after-taste. nuplastikk (1161), Madison, Wisconsin, USA Sep 8, 2009 Updated: Sep 23, 200916oz bottle, brewed for St. Patricks day, drank in July. Opaque black with stained glass corners. Thin, oily head. Sweet, adjunct-ridden aroma. Sub-par roasty chocolate characteristics. Smooth and drinkable at best, old and artificial at worst. Sweet butterscotch and brown sugar notes. Medium bodied. Sub par all the way, though it improves slightly as it reaches room temperature and becomes more Porter-like. drowland (1360), Tallahassee, Florida, USA Aug 22, 2009 Had at the brewpub after a tour of the place. Not a bad beer - typical profile and tasty enough. can8ianben (903), Pasadena, California, USA Aug 4, 2009 A little smokier than the Russian version, still a little more watery than I had hoped, but the flavor profile is fantastic. Dark dark dark. JoeMcPhee (4893), Jackson Heights, New York, USA Jul 4, 2009 Tap at Standings Bar. Dark black beer with a thin brown head. Lightly sour, roasty aroma. A bit of light vegetal character up front. There is also a bit of light citrus. Flavour is just kind of non-descript. Lightly roasty with a bit of cocoa roastiness. Meh... kind of rancid and gross. zach8270 (2051), Henrietta, New York, USA Apr 15, 2009 (bottle - 16 oz) Dark black pour with a thin tan head. Aroma is lightly roasted but rather sweet and malty with some hints of coffee and roasted malts. Flavor is dry and roasted at the beginning with a dry and very roasty middle. Finishes bitter with some hints of coffee and burnt malts. Some light sweetness present throughout. AskForJenny (627), Ontario, New York, USA Apr 6, 2009 16oz - Props for the pounder bottle. Dark black liquid under nice, dark brown head. Not much of a nose, hint of wood maybe with sweet malt. Some roasted malt and a coffee finish on palate. This was good, and would likely be better closer to the brewey. Scubatrip (388), Winston-Salem, North Carolina, USA Mar 3, 2009 From the bottle, pours black with a thick brown foamy head. Aroma is dry, not quite smokey, but gives the impression that a dryer stout is about to hit the lips. Taste is initialy smooth with some silky chocolate, followed quickly by a bitterness that hold throughout. Notes of cocoa powder and dark roasted malts, this finishes rather dry but not quite bittering. It’s....ok.
