stefanje (937), (Santee) San Diego, California, USA Nov 8, 2009 1 pint bottle. Bottle is a gusher. Whats left over after the gusher is a half pint of cloudy gold stuff with a small white head. The aroma is strange and pizza-like with tomato, garlic and oregano. The flavor is somewhat reminiscent of Bud chelada, but without the clams. The palate is thin and watery. The finish is short and disgusting. Overall: nasty stuff. nickd717 (1276), Palo Alto, California, USA Oct 26, 2009 Bottle thanks to byaeger on BA. Thanks, Brian. Wanted to try this for awhile and expected it to be terrible, but it really wasn’t. Pours a clear golden small, slightly fizzy white head. Aroma is pizza sauce, oregano, garlic, and pale malt. Flavor is a lot like a Boboli pizza. Tomato sauce, oregano, basil, and garlic all there, as well as pizza crust. Palate is light and watery, a bit thin. This is not a great beer for sure, but it accomplishes what it’s trying to do: taste like a pizza. SDalkoholic (1186), Chula Vista, California, USA Oct 19, 2009 Bottle from Bev 4 Less: I knew when I saw this bottle that it was going to be a recipe that wouldn’t taste good but I just had to try the recipe. In the nose, there is a marinara/tomato sauce scent with all the delicious aromas of garlic, tomato, basil and mushrooms but at the same time it just doesn’t smell appetizing since this is a beer after all, not a pizza or spaghetti sauce. Appearance is a golden blonde color with only a couple of carbonation bubbles seen rising while the head was thick at first but eventually simmered down to a flat layer of film covering. The flavor isn’t very good but I will admit it does have taste similar to a pizza and also starts to leave behind garlic breath which I think is quite disgusting, but natural if I had actually eaten cloves of garlic. There are additional herbs such as basil and oregano in the flavor as well, but in all honesty this is a poor concept if this was to be paired with pizza since why would you want to eat and drink pizza? marcus (1826), Sacramento, California, USA Oct 13, 2009 This hazy amber beer poured with a thin off-white head and, believe it or not, it smells like pizza. There is a thin caramel malt flavor and a hint of hop bitterness. I won’t be repeating this one. bhensonb (4187), Woodland, California, USA Oct 6, 2009 Bottle from Beverages4Less. Pours hazy orange gold with very little white head. Does have a tomato, undercooked dough aroma set. Medium body with sharpish carbonation. Flavor is pizza spicey at first, then goes rather bready flat. Then it all starts over. Drinkable, but certainly a curiosity. Bet ya can drink just one. iabeerguy (158), Iowa, USA Oct 4, 2009 This was one of the most off-the-wall beers I’ve ever tried. I’m not even sure how to rate it. Definite smell of pizza ingredients and it tastes like your drinking a really good pizza. Very different but amazingly pretty good. ucusty (1871), Wake Forest, North Carolina, USA Sep 28, 2009 Thanks to the beerprincess for sharing! Im wondering how the bread came out? Gold pour. Basil and tomato aroma. Flavor is grainy, meaty and herbal. Not as bad as I was expecting. I bet this makes a great beer for cooking shigadeyo (2210), Harrison, Ohio, USA Sep 22, 2009 9/06/2009: Mamma Mia! Pizza Beer... Aroma: Sweet tomato, yuck! I enjoy beer paired with a lot of diverse things, but tomato just isn’t one of them! Appearance: Hazy, deep gold color; foamy ivory-colored head. Flavor: A bit sweet with oregano, basil, and a hint of tomato; tastes a bit like herb-seasoned pizza dough; the flavors grows on me a bit more with each sip. Palate: Medium body, smooth. Overall: Tastes better than it smells; probably better for cooking and sharing as a novelty rather than drinking regularly.
