Hmmm... different and interesting. The flavor and scent speaks of tomato sauce and oregano, and is truly unique. When eaten with similar food (I had a calzone), the flavor becomes subdued and less well, and actually goes decently with the food.

[Bottle] A while ago, I was lucky enough to try this beer when it was still brewed at America’s Brewpub in Aurora, IL. I had heard they started brewing it on a larger scale, so I decided to give it a try. Pours a tawny light brown color with some sediment and no head. Aroma of light oregano and tomato. Taste is very similar, but with quite a bit more garlic and salt. Some funk in there as well (which wasn’t part of the original version). Tasted watered down as well. All of the flavors are very muted compared to the original beer. Overall, I am quite disappointed by this version because the brewpub version was at least 100% better.

I had only heard legends of this beer from friends, so when I went to Chicago recently I had to find it and at least try it. I went in thinking either I would love it or be unable to finish a bottle. As it turns out, it was the former. This isn’t a beer you would drink regularly but as a novelty drink it’s great. It doesn’t taste like you have a mouthful of pizza, but you taste the garlic, the tomato and definitely the oregano. Afterward, you’ll have burp that tastes like you downed half a pie. I recommend at least trying it. You won’t hate it, but if you don’t like it you’ll just ask, as a friend said: "Why can’t I have beer flavored beer?"

bill brought this over i believe so he wouldn’t have to drink it by himself... though i’m sure he could have handled it... an orange golden pour produces a small white head. it smells and tastes...awful...like a #10 can of cheap pizza sauce... tomato, pepperoni, oregano... a touch too sweet with a mildly bitter finish... this one is hard to finish and probably should never have been made....5/3/3/3/62.0

Yellow pour with no head. It’s pizza...in a glass...with alcohol. I’m really not sure how else to describe this beer. It very much reminded me of pizza flavored Combos, oily pepperoni, and heavy oregano. The body is thin with a moderate amount of carbonation. I have to say, a friend gave this to me as a joke and it was shockingly not half bad.

16 oz bottle. Got this for a friend, thought it would nice to try, so I got my favorite pizza and cracked this open. Pours a funky bronze-orange-yellow color, that is very hazy and had no head. Smells of alcohol (strange, given the ABV), basil, and oregano, and typical lager smells. Tastes of alcohol, unfortunately quite a bit of it, that over powers any other flavors, but has a pleasant smoothness at the end. Not horrible, but I wouldn’t seek this out again, and I’d never try without pizza.

Bottle: The aroma is marinara sauce and the slightest hint of pale lager aromas. It pours a transparent amber with a small white head. The flavor isn’t much...it’s got some faint marinara/tomato flavors with a hint of pale lager and pepper. Light bodied with a soft mouthfeel.

Bottle shared by bockyhorsey at hellbilly’s holiday tasting. Light beer with tomato paste, basil and garlic flavors. Not much else to say about this one! I have always been curious, so I’m glad I got to try it. Thanks B & W!
