Commercial Description:
Fire-brewed African style ale, brewed with banana extract
Bananas are the main ingredient in mbege style beers popular in Eastern Africa. In keeping with tradition, this is brewed with real bananas and presented unfiltered. Light hints of banana remain present in the aroma and flavor of this unique offering

Juicey fruit gum and banana aroma with a cloudy amber color. Flavor was banana up front with a extract hint to it. Rather interesting beer. Nice and clean finish. Thanks to Skyview for the trade!

16 oz. bottle. Pours a cloudy copper with a creamy, slightly yellow-white head. Lots of small carbonation bubbles feed the head for several minutes. The aroma is definitely bananas, but it actually smells like real bananas and not like some fake fruit candy. Some sugar and lemons also in the aroma. The bananas are in the flavor too, but the flavor isn’t as genuine as the aroma. I couldn’t decide if I liked the flavor or not, but I give Sprecher credit for trying something different and achieving moderate success.

Copper color with a thin head. Wickedly strong banana aroma that is absolutely perfect. Smells just like banana and not the sickening extract crap. Unfortunately, the taste is more like the extract. Watery and slightly sour. It promised so much, and delivered so little.

In a word, this beer is icky. It tastes like Sprecher’s abbey trippel (which I do not think is very good for a trippel) slightly diluted but with the addition of a banana abstract that is wayyy more banana-ish than bananas themselves. If this is what they’re drinking in Africa (and I always personally associated bananas more with S. America), than I want no part of the African beer scene. Not recommended. Appearance was a dirty dark yellow with abundant head. Aroma was (as I’d feared) a candy-ish banana. Flavor was as I outlined above. Mouthfeel was not terrible, but was pretty watery. Not good.

Ugh, not good. Astringent artificial banana flavouring dominates this horrible beverage. I know they thought about making one that only relied on esters to produce a banana flavour. Why they didn’t stick to that only Randy or Craig knows. Basically, this is their hefe with some artificial banana extract thrown in.

16oz bottle, no date. Pours a clear honey golden with a 1/2 finger quickly fading yellowish head. Aroma of banana Runts, powdered sugar, light lemons, and lighter earth. Flavor has slightly stronger earth and herbal characteristics, paper and Runts again. There was some lemony tang in there--overall pretty fruity and fairly sweet. No bitterness. Moderate carbonation with a light to medium body. When I first started drinking this I thought it was kinda crappy, but it did seem to grow on me a little bit by the end of the pint. Gets a bonus point of two for experimentation purposes.

This yellow beer has an excellent banana aroma. It seems to be real fruit rather than syrup. Lightly sweet, with an off banana flavor. This beer smells much better than it tastes, but the banana flavor isn’t terrible. Thanks to Skyview for sharing.

Thanks to Skyview for sharing! Very nice banana nose. Hazy brown body. Tastes like a wheat beer with banana #5 flavoring added. Slightly chemical tinge to it.
