Commercial Description:
A Bohemian style golden lager. A profuse maltiness, offsets the slight bitterness from the aromatic Saaz hops resulting in a complex, yet very smooth lager.

My dad split a four pack that he found stashed away, lucky me! Clear gold color with a thick, foamy white head. Aroma is grassy and lightly malty with some hints of spice. Flavor is a slightly peppery, spiciness with a bit of doughy malt. Tingly carbonation and a nice, crisp palate. It’s a good beer but I suspect the flavor is fading a bit. I think my dad broke this open just in time.

Recently purchased at Benz Beverage Depot in Cedar Rapids, IA. There is not a sensible expiration date on the shoulders of the bottles in this four pack. Anyay, I have tried a couple of times and the beer seems fine. The body is dark gold with a thick and long lasting white head. Lots of carbonation bubbles in my tulip glass. The aroma has some potatoes with some spicy ginger. The taste has some light notes of bell pepper with some spice of black pepper in the finish. All of the flavor is mild and the mouthfeel very soft. This is nice, but needs a little more character. It is possible the hops taste has faded with time.

Mostly clear, dark copper in color with a fast, white head. Predominant malt aroma hints at chocolate milk. Hefty in the mouth for a Pils with Saaz adding an Eastern European sharpness to a sour lagered base. Despite having no visible effervescence, the beer left a tingly spiciness on the tongue. Starting to show hints of oxidation, so drink up now.

Light pale maltiness in aroma and flavor...and some bright pilsener style hops prevalent as well. Very drinkable...almost sessionable. But I would have enjoyed it a bit more if everything were ratcheted-up a couple notches. Could have used a little more carbonation too.

Sprecher Pale Lager pours to a beautiful, bright, pale golden color with a creamy white head, and a lively amount of carbonation. The nose is just bursting with zesty/grassy Saaz hop aroma with a nice back drop of pale malt aroma. The palate is crisp and delicious, lots of good pale malt flavors and a lean, smooth, soft body. This beer finishes with light touches of pale malt flavor up front, and ends with a wondeful, zesty, grassy, hop bite that lingers. WOW! This is a fantastic pilsner, one of the best domestic versions I have ever tasted. It would stand shoulder to shoulder with any Czech or German example. This is a perfect beer to have as an aperitif, and goes well with a number of dishes. Try this with a chicken spanferkel dinner, which consists of spit roasted chicken, German potato salad, saurkraut, and rye bread and butter.

Deep gold body with a bubbly white head. The aroma is a bread dough, malty scent with, alas, just a trace of Saaz hopping. It’s a smooth drink, but the malty flavor seems a bit diluted. I would like to have tasted a bit more of the hops in this. Finishes on a watery, malty sweet note.

Grassy, but a bit overly acidic. Sourdoughish malt. Seems unfiltered at the end. Much better than your average bear.

Got one of the last bottles of this lying around as this beer is now retired. Having more in common with an AMC clone than a true pilsner. Light body with a grainy taste and a little citrusy on the finish.
