| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 5/5 | 10/10 | 5/5 | 15/20 | Jan 25, 2006 Sprecher Pub Brown Ale pours to a deep brown color with a creamy, tan head, and a soft carbonation. The nose is sweet malty, wonderfully roasty, and nutty, with mild hop aroma. The palate is soft, with pleasing sweet malt flavors, a touch of estery fruit, a hint of chocolate, nutty flavors. This beer finishes with more sweet malt flavors up front, and a slight hop bitterness to balance, but as with the nose, the hop character is mild.
A very well done example of a classic sweet brown ale. I enjoyed this beer very much, and bought some very fresh bottles to bring home for later consumption. For a brewery that specializes in German lagers, you will be quite impressed with their versions of British ales. Pub Brown Ale is an excellent session beer, but would also work very well with desert. It would make the perfect foil to sticky toffee pudding, or perhaps even a German desert such as bienenstichkuchen.

| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 2/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Dec 11, 2005 (16 oz bottle: Obtained in trade with CaptainCougar, thanks Tom!) One of my favorite American breweries has crafted yet another beer that seems tailor-made for me, this seems to be what I wish Newcastle Brown Ale were. It’s flavorful, moderately sweet, very toasty, caramely and malty in a way that is reminiscent of German Oktoberfest. Clearly, this beer is all about the malt; hops and bitterness are like unwanted stepchildren hidden in the attic and have minimal presence here. The nose totally projects a toasty, "brewhouse" maltiness, you know, like when you step outside near a brewery and you just want to stand there for hours, eyes closed, smelling the amazing aromas. Body is kinda sorta maybe medium, bordering on being thin, but acceptable I suppose. Light-medium brown in color and fairly clear in appearance. Unfortunately, the light tan head pours very small and soon fizzles away to the tiniest of rings. Very tasty beer, not complex at all, perhaps what I’d describe as English brown meets German Oktoberfest. Delicious. Juelze (905), Green Bay, Wisconsin, USA

Not a big fan of brown ales but this was pretty decent. Slick (1962), Thief River Falls, Minnesota, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 2/5 | 15/20 | Oct 27, 2005 Good dark copper color, small off white head that faded slowly to leave a slight lace behind. The aroma was malty and caramel and maybe a slight sweetness being hinted at as well.Good malty flavor with a decent caramel side and some latent hops in the end.It actually is a pretty good brew, granted it’s not in the top 10 but still it has a certain drinakable quality that seems to make you wanna another brew.Decent enough to have another. hopdog (5591), Lansdale, Pennsylvania, USA
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Oct 23, 2005 Poured a medium and hazy brown color with an averaged sized off white head. Aromas of toasted malts, light caramel and I found this one to be a little fruity. Tastes of light caramel, nuts with light hops in the finish. Thinner body. Ofortuna (322), Grafton, Wisconsin, USA
| 2.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 2/10 | 2/5 | 11/20 | Oct 16, 2005 Nice golden color and a slight nutty aroma. However, this leads to a thin, caramel body and a musty aftertaste. Poor rendition of what a real brown ale should be.
