| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Sep 11, 2004 darker than i expected it to be (not really sure what i expected though). smells toasty, malty, lightly hoppy. it’s a little too bitter to really complement the dominant toasted malts, but it’s overall a reasonably good beer. | 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Sep 1, 2004 Pours a dark mahogany brown with a small white head. Aroma is malt and a pale caramel. Taste is somewhat thin, with a very malty finish. A nice ale, a little sweet, and under carbonated. JCapriotti (1378), Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Aug 4, 2004 Dark mahogany color, short lasting off-white head. Very bready aroma with some sweetness that isn’t really that pleasant. Sweet nutty taste that is a bit like rye bread with some sweet caramel hints. Not the best brown ale in my book. thedm (3837), Fort Wayne, Indiana, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Aug 3, 2004 This bottled brew marked best before 6/18/2003 poured a medium sized head of foamy finely sized off-white colored mostly diminishing bubbles that left behind a poor lacing. The body was transparent softly carbonated and brown in color. It had a caramel malt aroma and a mildly tingly smooth well balanced mouth feel that was a bit on the thin side. The flavor contained notes of mild caramel and malts. It was a decent beer but not great and not bad. SledgeJr (3004), Omaha, Nebraska, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jul 28, 2004 Updated: Jul 29, 2007In the bottle at the 2004 Crescent Moon Vintage Beer Tasting. This was extremely tart! Tasted kind of squirrely and smelly. Similar to the aroma of an animal’s wet fur. Please keep in mind that this was a bottle more than 10 years old. It did not age well. I’ll re-rate if I ever get a fresh bottle.
UPDATE 7/29/7: In the pint bottle from HyVee CB. Pours a very dark amber with an off white head. The aroma is a mild caramel to complement the malty nose. The medium body is easy to drink, yet not smooth like a brit beer. Fairly good, it is easy to see why an ancient bottle of this could easily turn: this is likely well under 1.040 OG. Good creamy head stays alive for the entire beer. My score goes way up from the original vintage tasting of 1.8. screigh (264), Fort Wayne, Indiana, USA
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jun 29, 2004 Poured a large off-white head that disappeared and no lacing. Color is a light brown, almost red. I agree with one description that the aroma is that of butter. Smooth malty taste with a hint of chocolate. Not too bad. hotstuff (3183), Indiana, USA
| 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Jun 6, 2004 Bottle. Large sized ivory head that was frothy and fizzy with fine-small sized bubbles that completely diminished. Malty, hoppy and a little fruity. Flavor was malty, sweet, light hops, and watery. Mouthfeel was smooth and watery/thin. Light bodied beer with sparse lacing.
