| 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | May 18, 2009 500ml bottle. Translucent amber-brown color, minimal patchy head. Odd sweet caramel aroma. The taste comes off a little adjuncty, with some amber malt and a syrupy sweetness. Minimal sublime hops help you get this one down. Quite a poor example of a Brown Ale, even for Sprecher. topherh (940), Kearney, Missouri, USA

Growing up, the nearest brewery to us was FX Matt, in Utica (Utica Club, Saranac, Matts; also bottles Brooklyn, Mississippi Mud, etc.). When taking the brewery’s excellent tour, one of the rooms had spent grain. That’s what this beer was to me-- the cereal-like spent grain with some of the flavors of an English ale thrown in.
I’ll give this another shot if I find it on draft, but this was an inauspicious debut for my first try at Sprecher. CanIHave4Beers (917), Des Moines, Iowa, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Jan 15, 2009 I didn’t expect this beer to be like this at all. Pours a deep brown with not a whole lot of head, but a little retention. Smells nutty and of brown sugar with a little mild hops. Taste is virtually exactally the same as the smell just a little more intense on the brown sugar and hops. This is pretty well balanced and overall I liked it enough to buy it sometime when I am looking for a departure. Brown ale is generally not my thing but this is ok. | 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jan 7, 2009 Bottle. Nutty aroma, mild. Deep brown body, tan head. Flavor is very mild, hints of fruit and caramel. Finishes crisp but thin. meisterbrauMHB (53), Waukesha, Wisconsin, USA
| 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 9/20 | Jan 3, 2009 Nice aroma, color, slight head. Decent effervescence. Overriding flavor notes were bitter with a metallic finish. Not the best brown ale I have had.
