dry caramel malt flavor with lots of oaky funk, light tartness, touch of vanilla, earthy funk is prominant but not as bad as the aroma,

| 1.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 2/10 | 3/5 | 2/10 | 1/5 | 3/20 | Mar 27, 2009 Peach-amber colour with a thin head. Truly bizarre aroma - could be peaches, could be whisky, could be a garbage heap, could be a really bad batch of mofongo - use you imagination. Honestly, it’s probably just a heavy sorghum aroma, but it’s not pleasant. Raunchy sour sorghum character, like the fruity funk of a Caribbean stout but without the stout. This one is a major struggle. hopdog (5590), Lansdale, Pennsylvania, USA

Poured a medium and cloudy amber color with a smaller sized off white head. Lots of small floaters. Aromas of bananas, fruity, (spices defintiely cloves in there), smoked wood, and maybe a trace of bubble gum. Tastes of bananas, cloves, wheaty/graininess, fruity, and had that same woody-smokiness to it. Had a very light tart finish. Very interesting beer that seems to cross a few styles. This one is growing on me with every sip I take. CaptainCougar (5493), Rockville, Maryland, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Feb 26, 2007 Pours a transparent golden bronze with a small frothy covering of white head. Interesting fiery smoked grainy sugary aroma has some bready Bavarian yeastiness and some clove spice. Body starts with a mild pale malty sweetness with hints of caramel and some light fruitiness before revealing toasty biscuits and a bittersweet earthy hop finish. Another interesting brew from Sprecher that I prefer over the Mbege, and makes for more of a hefe-weizen than a traditional ale. Cletus (5057), Connecticut, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Oct 14, 2007 Pours copper and slightly hazy with a thin white head. Smells of rice and fruit with some subtle peppery splashes. Taste is a little opn the funky side with some underrlying lactic hints, some fruit and hints of sweet malt. Decent for what it is. Aroma is quite sweet and herbal with a fairly cidery character. Light apple/pear aromatics with a touch of banana. Also a touch of brown sugar. Flavour is fairly sweet and fruity with a light herbal spiciness on the back. Some lactic tartness on the back as well. It’s sweeter than I’d like, but it isn’t bad. | 2.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 2/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | May 6, 2007 This pours a very hazy apricot body that chock full of particulates and is topped by a small, creamy off-white head. The aroma is that of a watery orange juice with a splash of vanilla extract. Tastes a bunch like watery OJ, too, with some pureed bananas and mild brown spices. This is an interesting experiment by Sprecher, but I doubt I’ll be having it again.

| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jan 10, 2007 Quite cloudy amber liquid with a taller beige head that diminishes quite quickly. Sweet caramel with a touch of dark candi in the aroma. Nothing real strong, just somewhat mild, in a relaxing sort of way. Dry caramel flavors with a lightly woody and wheat undertone. Agree with the other assessments that this does have a mild Belgian quality, lIkely from the yeast. Light fruit in the finish, with raisins and a touch of melon. This reminds me of there base brew for the old belgian raspberry.
