May 29, 2007 Bottle. I had this many times in college, though never rated. A friend had this at a BBQ over the weekend, and I was happy to find out I still love it after many years and new beers. Pour is amber, with a medium white head that goes quite quickly. Aroma is mostly malt and a bit of hop. Taste is a nice belnd of malt backbone and hop flavoring. A nice carbonation makes this very refreshing. Wish I could get it in MO/KS!

May 28, 2007 a very solid brew. i had it in the bottle so i can’t comment on the apperance of the actual beer, but i love the 16oz bottle. It has a nice mouthfeel with a slight carbonation, i still prefer there black bavarian, but this was good as well.

May 25, 2007 Copper-red pour with a thin white head. Sweet malty aroma with some caramel. Nicely carbonated. Malty front end with a little bit of spice towards the middle. Toast and dough into the finish which is lightly hopped and bitter. I liked it.

Sam’s Downers Grove
Sprecher’s Special Amber poured a crystal clear light caramel. Great big carbonation bubbles rise rapidly to the loose off white head that formed on the pour. The head quickly fell to a thin cap. The head is a little of a disappointment but the body looks great.
The smell is very similiar to Great Lakes Eliot Ness. Lightly toasted malt with a mixture of raw grain. Caramel and toffee scents as well. Very malty. Very mild hop spiciness that’s barely detectable.
Flavor is very much like the aroma. Toasted grains with a nice deep maltiness. Caramel and toffee overtones. Finishes crisp with a mild hop spiciness.
Medium body with prickly carbonation that makes this beer crisp. Mild hop bitterness after the swallow.
This is an easy drinker. Refreshing and crisp help this beer go down easy.
Special Amber is a good quality session brew. Very good flavor and a lower abv let this beer shine in a session situation. I will definately pick this up again, soon.

May 20, 2007 Nice looking amber with white head. Aroma of some hops and caramelized malt. I wasn’t expecting this strong of a hops presence. The balance is excellent. A rounded toasted malt. Well crafted.

May 18, 2007 Poured golden in color with a thick offwhite head. Had a bit of sweetness in the aroma. Could taste the toasted malts and just enough hops to make it a little bitter.
