| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | May 11, 2006 The aroma is sweet with caramel and cereal grains dominating the hops. The appearance is amber with a medium head. The flavor is really sweet with caramel and lightly toasted malts. The bitterness is somewhat astringent and soapy. The palate is average. Overall this is good but it would be much better if they would fix the off bitter taste; maybe try a different hop. brianprentiss (475), Portland, Oregon, USA

| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 4/10 | 4/5 | 10/20 | Apr 16, 2006 Bottled. This amber pours a light copper color. The aroma is dominantly malty. This is a medium bodied lager with a slightly bitter finish. This has somewhat of a marzen taste to it. Pretty good, but not great. vyvvy (2068), Hazelwood, Missouri, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Apr 14, 2006 Pour light amber with medium carbonation in the beer, nice off white head that tapers down slowly. Rich creamy malt aroma with granola aspects. Medium body, very smooth, medium carbonation that is sharp on the finish. Taste mellow roasted malts that are very creamy with a touch of roastedness, there are some lightly spicy hops on the finish. This is very well put together. Generally I am not a fan of anything that says amber, this has much more body that I expected, lots of smoothness and well integrated flavors. Very nice job on this one. | 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Feb 15, 2006 (16 oz bottle: $1.99 at BevMo in La Jolla, CA) Sprecher has often impressed me in the past, and though this beer is somewhat more enjoyable than your basic amber beer, I guess I expected a stellar example of a Vienna. It’s moderately malty, and fairly caramely and sweet initially, with a pretty mild hops bitterness lending some balance in the finish. Predictably for the style, the finish is somewhat dry and lagerish, which is key because so many ambers ales have that cheap-tasting, sugary sweet, caramel finish that just wears down the palate. The nose is honey and caramel, but not overly sweet. Medium bodied, clean, and fairly well-carbonated on the palate. Pale amber color shows good clarity. Off-white head has decent size, but quickly settles to a sheen. No lacing to speak of. Okay, so perhaps it’s not stellar, but it’s still pretty solid.
