Medium carbonation. Clear amber color. Nose is bready. Starts and finishes with a balance of hops and malts. Slightly hoppy aftertaste. Does not work with spicey foods. $1.95 for a 16oz bottle. radiomgb (2001), Peterborough, Ontario, Canada

| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Apr 10, 2004 Very malty aroma coming out of a pale amber, lightly frothy white-topped beer. Caramel sweet and malty - coats mouth more than I expected. A little citrus in there too - Not bad. Thanks to joeybgood for sending this one my way. heemer77 (4307), Savannah, Missouri, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Mar 10, 2004 The first smell that hit me was surprising, as it was largely hops. Then a little malt. Starts out smooth and gets a little more bitter and interesting as you go through it. The hops come out and have some grapefruit. Medium mouthfeel. It does look orange!!Slightly below par for Sprecher, but still fairly good. DavidP (1743), Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA

Aroma has caramel and brown sugar, no hops to speak of. The flavor does a 180, featuring bitter and grapefruit hops. Some caramel sweetness in the finish. OldGrowth (1426), North Carolina, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Feb 17, 2004 Bottle: Lite nose, carmel/toffee, and sourdough. Orange color. Clear. Small head that disappeared quickly. Roasted malt, carmel, touch of grapefruit in the flavor. Clean bitter finish. Tasty, easy drinkin. Good for mowing. I like the whole better than the parts. badgerben (3603), Blaine, Minnesota, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Feb 17, 2004 Tap at Sprecher's tasting room. Amber (duh) color with little head. A little hops and malt, maybe a hint of fruit. I didn't think it was a vienna, but it reminds me of just a good bitter. Very nice to have a few of. SledgeJr (2961), Omaha, Nebraska, USA
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jan 24, 2004 Updated: Aug 19, 2005Bought this beer in PA about 15 years ago. It was packaged as "Rathskeller" beer and I was really amazed at how ORANGE it was. Not much in the aroma or flavor category, but man, was it ORANGE!
UPDATE: In the pint bottle from Dirty Johns. This simply is not the same beer as the old Rathskeller beer from Pennsylvania. The link must be wrong. This pours deep gold with a white head. Mild malty aroma. Tastes like a Sam Adams Boston Lager without the sweetness. I don’t agree with the Vienna style characterization either. What a mystery!
