Very little head and a nice dark color. Little carbonation. Caramel and malt in the aroma. Taste has malt, grass, wheat and a little toffee. I didn't catch the spiciness that has been mentioned. My first from this brewer, I will have to try more. badgerben (3605), Blaine, Minnesota, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Feb 17, 2004 Tap at Sprecher's tasting room. Very black color with a white head. Lots and lots of roasted malty goodness. It took some time, but I finally determined it has a very Grape Nuts taste to it. Some may find that repulsive, but I find it goes very nice as a winter warmer. BBB63 (4271), La Porte, Indiana, USA
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Feb 15, 2004 Brown with ruby highlights, small tan head and minimal lace. The aroma hint of caramelized malts, light sweet spice, floral hops and dried orange peel. The taste starts malty and heavy, a bit of bitterness is found midsection and continues towards the end. A touch fruity and spicy but mostly hidden beneath the layers of malt. This medium bodied brew has a soft and dry mouthfeel. Just your average bock. SubstanceT (1090), Saint Louis, Missouri, USA

The taste is straight malts, nothing too exciting. Not too sweet or bitter heykevin (1269), Iowa City, Iowa, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jan 31, 2004 Quite dark in color. Malty sweet aroma, touch of bock character. Sweet, but rather thinnish malt. Some dark malt as well as biscuit and cracker malt flavors. Wisps of hops late. Decent, but unexciting winter lager. bu11zeye (5672), Frisco, Texas, USA

| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Dec 15, 2003 On tap Deep deep amber color, sweet caramel aroma. Roasty caramel flavor tempered by a pleasantly bitter aftertaste. Light mouthfeel, makes for an attractive, easty-drinking session beer. YourDarkLord (1800), Urbana, Illinois, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Dec 15, 2003 Rich, dark cherry brown body. Tan head disappears quickly. Aroma is sweet, some caramel, perhaps. The flavor was better than I thought. Not a bad beer, especially for Sprecher, but I prefer their root beer over their beer.
