Oakes (6853), Miami Beach, Florida, USA May 28, 2002 WTF? That Beer Lover guy had a pretty impressive two weeks on the site, and obviously knows his stuff, but Sprecher Winter Brew? Dark brown, malty, earthy with cocoa and liquorice tones and an earthy finish. It’s decent but not in the ballpark of being perfect. argo0 (6167), Washington DC, USA Dec 14, 2003 Deep brown body with a big, creamy tan head. Aroma is sweet caramel, some chocolate and light raisin. Taste is medium sweet, caramel, some chocolate, light raisin, finishing roasty but slightly astringent. Medium-full body. CaptainCougar (4633), Rockville, Maryland, USA Dec 1, 2002 A delectable winter treat with a wonderfully sweet taste and great mouthfeel. I await next winter...Re-rate: Ok, it’s next winter, and I don’t quite know what I was waiting for. This didn’t quite taste as I remembered it a year ago. That was also when I started rating beers and the original rating of 4.2 just doesn’t cut it. This beer has a pleasant caramel aroma, but an earthy mouthfeel and a stale grainy flavor. The finish is cloyingly bitter but does have some subtle chocolate undertones. Not one of Sprecher’s best. hopdog (4552), Lansdale, Pennsylvania, USA Feb 26, 2007 16oz bottle acquired in multiple trades. Poured a deeper mahogany color wiht an averaged sized off white head. Aromas of caramel, roast, light chocolate, toffee, and licorice. Tastes of toffee (reminded me of those hard toffee candies), roast, nuts, and light chocolate. Lively body. BückDich (4540), Boise, Idaho, USA Oct 21, 2003 Pours a dark brown/black color - ruby with light. Nice sticky head and a lack for lacing. Aroma is very malty with some musky hops, caramel and coffee shining through. Flavor is not very sweet or fruity as most bocks dictate. Finishes bitter and astringent but fades quickly. This isn't too bad, Thanks Indra!
