Pigfoot (2224), Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA May 13, 2008 Deep brown under a fleeting, cocoa-toned head. Looks good while it lasts.
Sweetness in the nose, nuts & caramel, ending dry, clean.
Taste: dark toned, cola notes, nice and malty, warm & toasty. A bit roasty, but then, a touch too syrupy. Sweetness is tempered, though, never too much, but ...almost...
Ultimately, too thin for me, but a decent bock. Not quite good enough for a winter ale, though. Shouldn’t a bock be a spring seasonal? More malt, more hops, please!
eaglefan538 (2039), Wilmington, Delaware, USA Jun 28, 2008 Bottle from perhaps Bockyhorsey. Pour was full brown with mahoganey hues, nice initial head and good lacing. The aroma was nutty, bready, caramel, chocolate, dark Munich type malts. Flavor was dead on for the style, a fullness of a doppelbock almost. Nuts, bread, caramel, chocolate, dark fruits, light spicey notes, a touch of licorice (some black patent in there?) really just quite nice. Haven’t had a notable bock in a while, this one is one, though Thanks, Bill (I hope I’m attributing proper credit where it is due) Headbanger (958), Aurora, Illinois, USA Jun 18, 2008 16oz bottle-Dark ruby brown body with a small tan covering for a head. Aroma of coffee, chocolate, roasted malt, and some sweetness. Taste of the same with a nice dry finish. Nice tasting brew. phishpond417 (1386), Green Bay, Wisconsin, USA Jun 17, 2008 This beer pours a dark brownish black colour with a small thin tan head. Aromas of coffee, spice, carmel and nutmeg. Heavy and full in the mouth, semi-sweet, finishes smooth with a soft touch of hops. IlanMan (514), Winona, Minnesota, USA May 15, 2008 Pour is medium to dark brown with creamy light tan head. Aroma is of roasted malt, caramel, and molasses. Flavor is very roasted with sweet caramel notes with a clean finish. Real smooth and full of flavor. Probably worth another buy.
