Commercial Description:
Kerplunk! Imperial Chocolate Stout is named for the delicious sound made as large amounts of Wilbur chocolate and west coast hops are added directly into the simmering brew kettle. This hefty black imperial-style stout boasts a rich caramel sweetness lavished by a robust, deep-roasted heartiness you can sink your two front teeth into. The bold flavors found in Kerplunk! are produced using a generous blend of roasted barley, crystal malts and locally produced chocolate. The resulting brew exhibits a deliciously complex and unique profile of subtle mocha coffee and intense chocolate, balanced nicely by the underlying roasted hop bitterness. This is a balanced strong brew boasting an A.B.V. of 8.1% that can creep up on you.

Brewed in the USA...... Growler from S.H.B. Pours a dark brown almost black in color with a nice med-foamy tan head that dissipates within a few minutes. Aroma of faint mild chocolate, hops and grains. Taste is also of hops and more hops !!! The mouthfeel is a bit on the thin side for an imperial stout, and the finish is both bitter and dry. Overall, I would say it’s pretty good, but i was dissippointed that there was virtually no chocolate to speak of.

From a growler purchased at the brewery. Black pour topped by a big lasting beige head. The smell is mostly hops mingling with roasted grain, has the signature smell of Centennial hops, as well as a hint of the chocolate that was used in the brewing process. The flavor is also very hoppy for an imperial stout, citrus, floral, and touches of cocoa and coffee. Deeply bitter finish lasts for quite some time, more "stout" flavors come out in the finish than during the actual swallow. Body was a bit on the thin side for the style, within the style guidelines for sure, but just a bit thinner than I would have hoped. It tastes more like a black IPA than an imperial stout but it was very tasty no matter what it is called.
