Dusty dark malt flavors with some earthy yeast, sweetens up a bit for the finish with black licorice. Weak for a Dopplebock. HomeBrewHawk (279), De Soto, Kansas, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jun 16, 2008 Thanks again to Dansting! 12oz. brown bottle served in a Duvel tulip. Pours a dark copper with a thin off white head. Not much aroma, sweetish, caramel. A little thin, more hop bitterness than I would expect from the style. Very dry. A slightly off flavor that I can’t quite put my finger on brought the score down a little. Could use a little more in the malt department. heemer77 (4311), Savannah, Missouri, USA

The aroma has some decent caramel with fresh milled barley. There is also a little bit of apple sweetness. The taste has some nice toffee and light mocha. Surprisingly dry for the smell. The body is light and it has very soft carbonation. Very well made dopplebock. bleeng (600), Spring near Beersel, Texas, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Feb 9, 2008 Served in a tulip glass-too cold like all their beers. Dark brown with a small white head. Nose is faint/subdued, probably because of the coldness. Taste of huge maltiness and sweetness, low hop profile, thick/chewy mouth and the alcohol is well hidden. Nice beer but it needs a temperature adjustment before it can be properly enjoyed. topherh (940), Kearney, Missouri, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jan 23, 2008 Draft at the brewery. Pours a dark brown. Big aroma of roasted malt. Taste was sweet malts up front followed by roasted malt and hop bitterness. Very good. biggmike (480), Hattiesburg, Mississippi, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jan 15, 2008 This beer poured a deep brown almost black color with small off-white head that dissipated fairly quickly. The flavor and aroma were both dominated by the roasted malt. Very smooth and easy drinking. I would definitely have again. pojo41 (315), Hattiesburg, Mississippi, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jan 14, 2008 Draft at brewpub and in bottles. This beer poured a deep, dark brown with a small, off-white head that didn’t last. Very nice dark roasted malt flavor and aroma. Clean and not too heavy on the palate. A very good doppelbock. | 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 12/20 | Dec 27, 2007 This dark beer’s hop character outstrips its malt. Pours very dark brown with mahogany highlights and just a thin, tan film on top, into a stem glass at the brewpub. Light, malty sweetness is buried in a drily bitter, roasted character. Somewhat thin mouthfeel, average carbonation. Pretty refreshing, but some more sweetness would have been nice for this sort of beer.
