albertane (300), Nottingham, Nottinghamshire, England Mar 23, 2008 Cask at the Gatehouse, Nottingham. This struck me as a passable porter without anything wrong with it. It has a decent balance of flavours and a smooth mouthfeel but it’s hardly remarkable. FatPhil (2362), Espoo, Finland Nov 11, 2007 Updated: Nov 13, 2007Cask (Peterborough Beer Festival, 2004)
Very dark brown, thin head. Slightly flowery malty aroma. Full flavour, fills the mouth, lots of richly roasted malts - coffee, and sweet. Excellent for 4%. chimp_lechamp (372), freehold, New Jersey, USA Nov 10, 2007 cask at the three judges- "it tastes asleep" is my girlfriends comment, tastes of nothing, driy finish of grassy earth. nothing good or great. hughie (2262), Bedford, Bedfordshire, England May 22, 2007 Cask at Wetherspoons, Milton Keynes. Springhead beers are a mixed bunch. This, in my opinion is one of the less successful. Very dark brown with a small off white head. Faint aroma of ash and fried bacon. The burnt paper theme continues in the taste, but only faintly, to be followed by a remote and hesitant bitterness. It’s as if someone has added insult to injury by dropping their cigarette end into your disappointingly watery pint. Pub (4119), Banbury, Oxfordshire, England Apr 19, 2007 Cask conditioned at The Live & Let Live, Cambridge. Black brown beer with tan head. For a porter with such a low ABV this has plenty of flavour, rich and fruity, I thought Rosehip was close, then a roasted coffee malty body. Lots of flavour right through to the finish. Good stuff.
