vyvvy (1689), Hazelwood, Missouri, USA Nov 3, 2006 Sampled at the brewpub. Pours orange / amber with a solid tight head. The aroma has sweet caramel malt and bits of spice, fairly clean. Medium body that is lighter than normal for a marzen. There is some gentle carbonation. Flavor starts with caramel mal that is a bit grainy. Not very sweet. There is some nuttiness and hints of stone fruits. The finish gets slightly medicinal and astringent but pulls back to what it should be. There is a lingering taste of bitter lemon for some reason. Okay Oktoberfest. sneagrams3 (1388), St. Louis, Missouri, USA Oct 16, 2006 Sample #3 from the brew pub. Caramel amber hue. Filtered with a clinging spotty off-white head. Slight caramel, cocoa and bread in the nose. Lively and rich. Medium bodied. Bready malts and a nice hop dryness in the finish. Good balance. Terminus (1955), Illinois, USA Oct 9, 2006 tap at brewpub-carme lamber with no head but my date had a glass of this and it had a good head-go figure! toasted wet grains on the nose with some light spicy notes from german hops. pretty true to style on the nose. amber grains dominate the flavors with a little hops on the finish. pretty standard for the course, but not bad. body suffers somewhat and their yeast tone from this brewery I could never get into it. I think they repitch too many times. SubstanceT (1087), Saint Louis, Missouri, USA Oct 8, 2006 On Tap at the brewery<P> Copper with an almost red kind of tint to it. Thin white head that is quickly discipating. The nose is your typical marzen with malt and some cream. The taste reminds me a lot of the spaten oktoberfest with its malt and cream. Overall a very solid oktoberfest. wxman (446), O’Fallon, Illinois, USA Sep 17, 2006 Updated: Sep 25, 2006Pours a bright gold with a big white head. Not much aroma. Has a sweet toasted maltiness with notes of maple syrup, toffee and spice. A very good effort.
