Commercial Description:
This Altbier is brewed in the traditional German old or ""alt"" style. Full bodied with a malty richness and deep copper color derived from Victory malt, roasted barley & carries a delicate hop aroma. Before lager beer was made (1830’s) in Germany, the style was Obergöriger Lageredbier, which means "" top-fermented lagered beer"". When Western Europe embraced the lager yeast in the middle of the 19th century, Düsseldorf decided to keep brewing their top-fermented beer. Altbier is thus an ale that is aged (lagered) like a lager. Altbier offers a smooth, rounded alternative to sharp, bitter Pilsners.

On tap at the SLC brewpub. Pours a dark cherry color with a thin creamy off white head. The aroma is a light malt. The taste is mostly a bitter/sweet mix, between a sweet dry malt and some hops. Also, a some spicy qualities, almost like a alcohol warmth. A great balance overall. Pretty good.
