Commercial Description:
An "Oud Bruin", also known as Flanders brown, style ale originating from the Flemish region of Belgium. A medium bodied, reddish-brown ale with a gentle malty flavor and no hop bitterness. The aroma is a complex mixture of fruits and estery smells of plums, raisins and cherry. Both brettanomyces yeast and red tart cherries were used in fermentation to create an authentic sour Belgian farmhouse ale with cherry accents.

Draft at Brewpub 1/19/09 pours a dark crimson with a small ring for a head. Aroma of cherries and cough syrup. Cherry, banana, and clove come out in the flavors. This light bodied brew is a big mix of flavors so I’m not sure what style they are going for.

On tap at the brewpub in Salt Lake City, Utah. I’ve waited for this beer for some time, unfortunately this beer seems to change a good bit from year to year. I was told by the brewer that past batches were much more sour, and also this version was not barrel aged. Anyway, it was nice to try since it is not made that often. Pours a dark reddish color with a medium white head. The aroma is very light; some sweet malts and cherries. The taste was more of a fruit beer than a sour; sweet malts, tart cherries, a slightly sour finish. Lots of malts and not funky or sour at all really. Nice though. An interesting beer.
