BigBen2120 (539), Gardiner(52 miles from Allagash), Maine, USA Jul 6, 2008 12oz bottle from Ron’s in Farmington. Pours opaque black body with a half inch or so of tan head. Tastes roasty, like baker’s chocolate with molasses notes and slight oatmeal taste toward the finish. Medium-bodied with a fair amount of carbonation. Nothing wrong with this brew - just a solid tasty oatmeal stout. Rcr84 (29), Canada Jul 6, 2008 bottle - my personal favorite for stouts. Pours jet black with a nice tan head. Aroma is complex with coffee/chocolate. Very smooth creamy body with a smokey taste. Just overall a great stout. colemgm8 (342), Alpharetta, Georgia, USA Jul 4, 2008 bottle. an excellent stout. pours a dark black with a good sized tan head. nice lacing throughout. Superb aroma - full of espresso, dark cherries, and chocolate. Smooth body overall - very soft on the sides and top... bitter up front and some dark cherry towards the back. Chocolate cake finish that leaves rather quickly, but leaves you wanting more. BigBeer45 (435), Troy, Michigan, USA Jul 4, 2008 This stout has a black pour with a dark tan head that thins out after a few minutes, left some lacing on the glass, there are dark roasted malt aromas with faint licorice in the background, hint of smoke and some coffee, faint dry chocolate fragrance in the background, fair amount of dark roasted malt flavor with a bitterness on the tongue, coffee flavor with very little sweet in this brew, some lingering dark roast and bitterness at the finish, very smooth on the palate, faint taste of smokiness(?)*(from roasted or burnt malt?), mouth feel is medium, this is a pretty intense dry dark roasty stout with a bit of bitterness but very smooth. Gregis (836), Overland Park, Kansas, USA Jul 3, 2008 Bottles courtesy of mreusch and kmweaver. Thanks for the bottles guys! Pours jet black with a loose, creamy, tan head that laces nicely. The nose is of lactose, dark roasted coffee and dark chocolate. The mouthfeel is medium-bodied and silky-slick with a bitter-roasted and mildly dry finish. The flavor really opens up on this one as it warms: roasted dark malt, coffee and dark chocolate with a lightly bitter hop note at the finish. I began drinking this one a bit too cool, but once it warmed a bit more, it transformed into an exceptionally smooth and tasty stout. This beer would make an excellent poster child for illustrating the importance of proper serving temperature.
