bedainedebiere (274), Terrebonne, Quebec, Canada Mar 20, 2009 I’m always happy to see a Quebec beer so highly rated but although it has been a regular stout choice for me, I now have a higher opinion of Dieu du Ciel’s Déesse Nocturne and Le Naufrageur hop-trip stout than of this one. The texture is just a little watery, very pleasant espresso and dark chocolate flavors, with more also pleasing bitterness than most other stouts, except for the two previously mentioned. But there is some trace of vanilla in the taste and aroma that I like a little less, personnaly. 8,99$ (special price, usually 10,49$) for a 6-pack in a nearby grocery store. A really low price around here for a beer of this quality. Good, because some expensive beer I tried were quite "sinkable"... BostonFox (25), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Mar 19, 2009 On tap at The Troubadore in the Junction. Kinda surprised to find this brew in this little hole in the wall....lucky me. Great, great looking stout man! Chocalat dominates the flavour with bitter coffee and hops in the finish. Much more enjoyable on draft. Tres bien! djd07 (717), Houston, Texas, USA Mar 19, 2009 Bottle as shown. Pours a large frothy light tan head that lasts awhile and leaves good sticky lacing along the glass. The aroma is a roasted malt with chocolate and smoke. The taste is a bitter malt with chocolate and burnt molasses. A very good stout from McAuslan. GranvilleTim (465), Granville, Illinois, USA Mar 17, 2009 Sweet aroma- malt, chocolate, caramel, and coffee. Deep black pour with a brown head that dissapated. The aroma of this beer actually made my mouth water. First sip-Wow. Smooth, dry tasting, all of the flavors that I smelled came through in the drink. I believe that I found a new favorite oatmeal stout. The aftertaste begs you to take another sip. I obliged, then I wished I bought more. msante79 (775), Orland Hills, Illinois, USA Mar 5, 2009 12oz bottle from Orland Park Binny’s single rack. Pours dark clear brown with tan head. Aroma is roasted malt and oat. Flavor is mostly roasted malt and oat with some dark fruits. Decent stout but not as good as rating. BillyMidnight (41), Alberta, Canada Mar 4, 2009 Rich, thick and black as coal. The kind of stout with enough complex chocolaty flavours to make you feel sophisticated, and a bitter enough coffee aftertaste to reassure you you could win a fight with anyone else in the bar. Goes great with Hemmingway novels. cking (1001), North Canton, Ohio, USA Feb 28, 2009 Top shelf stout, this acts and feels much bigger than it really is. Opaque black/brown pour with a 1/2" brown head and moderate lacing. Filling aroma of boozy bourbon, hearty oatmeal and plenty of burnt malts. A smokey wood scent helps round out a wonderful aroma. Thick and creamy, big malty feel coupled by a brash bitterness that sticks with you. Tons of toast and burnt malt flavor. Earth, wood, chocolate and coffee assault the taste buds. A hint of rum and/or whiskey is present in the aftertaste. Great stout. Chrism86 (273), Melbourne, Australia Feb 27, 2009 Pours jet balck with a huge choc orange coloured head. Aromas of dry coffee roast and dark bitter chocolate with some hinting honeycombe. Palate is almost a mirror image. Some nice, slightly sweet malt coming through the mid palate before dark roast drives a long finish. Has a slight oatmeal tang on the finish. Really well balanced.
