craftbeerdesign (731), Alpharetta, Georgia, USA Jul 4, 2008 bottle. an excellent stout. pours a dark black with a good sized tan head. nice lacing throughout. Superb aroma - full of espresso, dark cherries, and chocolate. Smooth body overall - very soft on the sides and top... bitter up front and some dark cherry towards the back. Chocolate cake finish that leaves rather quickly, but leaves you wanting more. BigBeer45 (675), Troy, Michigan, USA Jul 4, 2008 This stout has a black pour with a dark tan head that thins out after a few minutes, left some lacing on the glass, there are dark roasted malt aromas with faint licorice in the background, hint of smoke and some coffee, faint dry chocolate fragrance in the background, fair amount of dark roasted malt flavor with a bitterness on the tongue, coffee flavor with very little sweet in this brew, some lingering dark roast and bitterness at the finish, very smooth on the palate, faint taste of smokiness(?)*(from roasted or burnt malt?), mouth feel is medium, this is a pretty intense dry dark roasty stout with a bit of bitterness but very smooth. Gregis (1132), Shawnee, Kansas, USA Jul 3, 2008 Bottles courtesy of mreusch and kmweaver. Thanks for the bottles guys! Pours jet black with a loose, creamy, tan head that laces nicely. The nose is of lactose, dark roasted coffee and dark chocolate. The mouthfeel is medium-bodied and silky-slick with a bitter-roasted and mildly dry finish. The flavor really opens up on this one as it warms: roasted dark malt, coffee and dark chocolate with a lightly bitter hop note at the finish. I began drinking this one a bit too cool, but once it warmed a bit more, it transformed into an exceptionally smooth and tasty stout. This beer would make an excellent poster child for illustrating the importance of proper serving temperature. unclemattie (2370), Georgia, USA Jul 3, 2008 11.5oz twist-off bottle. Pours jet black, thick tan head. Nice lacing. Aroma of sweet roasty malt. Some coffee, some chocolate. Flavor of overly roasted roast. Rich coffee. Light bodied, lingering coffee bitterness. Beerman6686 (1263), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA Jul 2, 2008 Poured a nice black color with a nice light brown head. Aroma is is mainly of roasted malts and a little bit of coffee and chocolate. Flavor is a bit thin, bland and dry for my tastes. DocHop (278), Baltimore, Maryland, USA Jun 29, 2008 A fudge brown pour with a creamy brown head. Fantastic chocolate, lightly roasted oatmeal aroma. Very sweet, distinct, and powerful scents. The taste shows more coffee then chocolate actually and the roastiness is much more pronounced in the finish. Needs to be fairly warm to appreciate the creamy oat body. Lightly smoky as well. jlf278 (250), Hoboken, New Jersey, USA Jun 28, 2008 11.5 oz. bottle pours with small, quick to fade head. Aroma is sweet and of whiskey, raisin and chocoalte. Flavor is dry, with a good amount of coffee and a little chocolate. Palate is medium. Overall, too dry for me, not enough going on, but would go well with a meal. SledgeJr (2957), Omaha, Nebraska, USA Jun 24, 2008 On tap at Beerbistro in Toronto. Pours jet black with a medium creamy off white head. Palate is really nice as this is super smooth and milky. The flavor has lots of chocolate. A very good stout.
