lordeche (397), Quincy, Massachusetts, USA Jun 5, 2008 Pours black with brown head. Sweet aroma of oatmeal, dark fruit, coffee, and vanilla. Flavor is slightly sweet, slightly bitter, with vanilla, chocolate, caramel, and oatmeal up front and some roastiness at the end. A bit chalky. Damn good for a regular stout. Somewhat dry finish. Shag (1922), Chattanooga, Tennessee, USA Jun 3, 2008 A black appearance with a moderate tan head. The aroma is rather mild and contains some chocolate, oatmeal, and a hint of coffee. The flavor is slightly bitter with some chocolate, oatmeal, dark fruit. Doesn’t seem to live up to the hype of the past but still a solid stout. Thin bitter chocolate flavor up front. Chalky roastiness with a persistent tartness. Slight sweetness in the finish, with faint chocolate. Mouthfeel is light, somewhat dry. biggmike (480), Hattiesburg, Mississippi, USA Jun 2, 2008 Bottle. This beer poured almost jet black with a small tan head that did not last too long. Aroma is of dark roasted malt and coffee. Flavor is of roasted coffee that is balanced by the oatmeal sweetness. Very robust. Mouthfeel is excellent. Drinkability is good. Tastes a lot like by homebrewed oatmeal stout.
doubleo (1096), San Diego, California, USA May 29, 2008 Bottle. Pours black with a nice crisp, brown head, spider web lace. Smells dark and roasty toasty, slightly sour. Tastes dark and roasty, slight coffee flavor, slightly sweet towards the finish, lingering bitterness. Medium body, on the thin side, crisp carbonation. Vas19 (293), Maryland, USA May 29, 2008 Pours black with a thin brown head. Classic stout aroma of coffee, chocolate, and roasted malt. A strong roasted flavor that is mellowed by the oat. Very smooth. Nothing offensive, a solid stout. polomagnifico (532), Saginaw, Michigan, USA May 23, 2008 bottle. Aroma has notes of leather, espresso, chocolate, earth and wood. Black hue with a large tan frothy head that leaves average lace and mostly diminished. Flavor is bitter roasted malt, coffee, chocolate, wood, leather, barnyard, and finishes a little sour and bitter. Palate is light/medium bodied and watery soft. Not nearly as good as the hyped description. Way over rated. nearbeer (1833), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA May 22, 2008 Updated: Dec 9, 200811.5 oz. Two-finger lasting head leaves nice frosty lace. Aroma of very sweet coffee and char. Tastes of sweet coffee, charred wood, dry grain, and maybe a touch of sour milk. A bit much oatmeal and roast to be a really great stout. Medium-heavy body is nicely dryish, but a touch too rough with frothy bubbles.
