Commercial Description:
St. Ambroise Oatmeal Stout consistently beats out international stouts in blind tastings and competitions. This intensely black ale carries strong hints of espresso and chocolate. The oatmeal contributes body and ensures a long-lasting mocha-coloured head. If you like stout, you will love St. Ambroise Oatmeal Stout.

Thanks to JCB for this! Dark brown pour, almost black. Brown head and some thick spotty lacing. Wonderful chocolate aroma. Chocolate and oats up front with big malty finish!

Bottle, thanks so much to robinvboyer! DELICIOUS! Pours dark black and nice and viscous. Nice brown and creamy head. Lacing is phenomenal. Smell is nice with tons of chocolate flavor. Tongue is chocolate, sweet coffee, oats, wood, and some nice residual sweetness and a good balance of hops. I even notice some hints of smoke. Great stout. I want more!!

12oz bottle. Pretty thick pour. Opaque black color. Head was thick and light brown with good retention and lacing. Looked pretty much as good as a stout can look. Pleasant aroma of vanilla, subdued brown sugar, burnt caramel, and a whiff of dark chocolate. Dry and medium bodied with moderate carbonation. I tasted roasted malt and dark chocolate. There was some light roasty bitterness at the end which kept things interesting.

Pours dark, dark brown with ruby hints around the edges when held up to the light. Head is one finger tan and retention and lacing are very good. Smell is fairly sweet with chocolate, vanilla and (surprise) oatmeal. Initial taste carries the sweetness indicated in the smell with oatmeal, chocolate, and vanilla. However, the taste has a much more roasted coffee and malt presence than the smell. The finish is fairly crisp with a slight hop kick at the end. Mouthfeel is medium and crisp with the slightest hint of smoke in the background. This is an excellent example of an oatmeal stout and extremely drinkable as stouts go.

bottle left at my house that used to belong to shyam... thick black pour topped by a medium brown head with reddish tints. unreal sheets of lacing left behind. the aroma is musty oats, smoke/astringency, licorice, wood, chocolate and umami. the palate is full of dark roasty grains, oatmeal, toasted nuts, chocolate and smoke. tart high roast finish with coffee and some banana like fruitiness in the finish. full body with a creamy texture as the carbonation gets worked up. astringency/acidity from the roast keeps the mouth feel interesting... very simple yet delicious and profound...

Bottle. Pour is thick and black with a one finger tan head. Aromas are weak... a bit musty and with some oatmeal and dark malt. Oatmeal and dark chocolate come through strong in the flavor as does a bit of a peat/smoke flavor. Very nice balance and wonderful, thick mouthfeel makes this one a winner.

11.5 oz bottle--bonus from jjpm74. Pours a jet black color with a tan head. Head slowly recedes to a fine film and leaves plenty of lacing. The aroma is medium in strength with coffee and smoked malts. The flavor is rich with more coffee and smoke. The mouthfeel is silky smooth and light on the palate. The finish is long with lingering smoke and biter walnuts. Overall: A superb stout, I’d drink it every day if it was available.

Bottle courtesy of CaptainCougar. Thanks. I ’ve been wanting to try this one for a long time.

Pours very, very black and thick, elegant tan head, full but with lovely fine bubbles. This one’s a five on appearance. Rich chocolate aroma, slightly metallic, inous hints, malty. Whispers of smoke and grape on the bitter-chocolate-dominated flavor, gently, gently sour, easy drinking, hints of sweetness ducking in at unexpected moments in the flavor profile, that smoke lingering into the finish beyond any serious trace of the hops.

After dozens of great big impy stouts, it’s so refreshing to sit down with a classic like this one. Beautifully done.
