Commercial Description:
St. Ambroise Oatmeal Stout consistently beats out international stouts in blind tastings and competitions. This intensely black ale carries strong hints of espresso and chocolate. The oatmeal contributes body and ensures a long-lasting mocha-coloured head. If you like stout, you will love St. Ambroise Oatmeal Stout.

Pours very dark mahogany with a compact dark khaki head. Delicate, jagged lines of lacing circle the glass. The aroma shows roasty coffee and baker’s chocolate, with gobs of smoothing oatmeal, oak, and vanilla. Ultimately, the roast dominates the nose. Similarly, the flavor is of charred oak kissed chocolate and coffee malts. Oatmeal really adds alot, as this one would ultimately be too roasty if it weren’t for the soothing effects of the grain. Drinks very smooth, but falls a bit short on body. Carbonation is a tad bit overly active. Finishes long and roasted. Nice brew, but certainly overrated.

12oz. Bottle: Aroma of chocolate, oats, cream, roasted malts, Ringwood yeast, and coffee. Poured black in color with a medium-sized, creamy, brown head that diminished but not totally. Opaque. Flavor is mildly sweet. Tastes of roasted malts, smoked, Ringwood yeast, coffee, oats, and some bitter chocolate. Medium body. Lightly chalky, slightly thin, texture. Soft carbonation. Roasted malt and oat finish.

Malty aroma with hops backdrop. Sweetish. Dark chocolate brown with a tan head. Flavors are initially bitter, coffee, roasted, some chocolate, sweet milk flavor, dryish on the finish. Some sour qualities. Thin palate, almost watery. Well carbonated. Overall good flavors but a little too thin an bubbly on the palate.

From the bottle, with many thanks to Secret Santa 07, pours black with a thick tan head and thick, residual foamy lacing down the sides. Vey nice aroma, rather bread-y, with a hint of chocolate and alcohol. Taste is smooth with flavors of cappuccino, chocolate, alcohol. Very smooth, hardly any aftertaste, except a light touch of coffee/espresso. Thinner than I anticipated, but overall very good. Thank you Santa.

11.5 oz bottle thanks to kramer17801: pours pitch black quick fading tan head, aroma of roased malt and chocolate, 1st sip i did not like, tasted like leather, being a decent fan of stouts i tried to think optimistic about this beer so took a second sip like i never had the 1st one and thats where i began to like it losts of roased malt and by lots of it i mean well roased they might have even burnt it followed by a slight sweet taste almost a little bit of caramel too. decent stout after the 1st sip but nothing to crazy.

12 oz bottle from trade with ketchepillar. Deep black/brown color with deep tan head. Coffee and smokey aroma. Rich mouthfeel with nice roasted grain and a bit of chocolate in the flavor. Some oat flavor comes through too. Very nice oatmeal stout.

Bottle. Moderate malt aromas of dark bread, roasted and milk chocolate, light notes of pine and leather, with raisin, toffee, cola and tobacco in the background. Head is rocky, light brown with excellent lacing and is fully lasting. Color is pitch black. Flavor starts moderately sweet and lightly acidic, then finishes lightly sweet and acidic, moderately bitter and just a touch sour. Palate is medium to full, creamy with a soft to lively carbonation. A very good and complex stout, just a little short on the boldness I would expect.
