Commercial Description:
St. Ambroise Oatmeal Stout consistently beats out international stouts in blind tastings and competitions. This intensely black ale carries strong hints of espresso and chocolate. The oatmeal contributes body and ensures a long-lasting mocha-coloured head. If you like stout, you will love St. Ambroise Oatmeal Stout.

Bottle. Pours black with a tan head. Aroma is sweet and roasted malt, with notes of coffee, sweet chocolate and dried cherry. A bit watery for a stout. Flavor starts with roasted malt, then sweet chocolate and fruit, and finishes on a nice bitter coffee note. Very good and very drinkable.

Pours black with a unpleasant looking off tan head. Aroma of oat and a bit of coffee. Flavor is similar, rather dull. vanilla, oats, hints of coffee. Over carbonated, takes away from the smoothness. Kind of bitter in a not so great way. Not impressed.

Thanks to Phil for this one. Pours black with a thick layer of brown head. A chocolate and cola aroma is noticeable. Flavor is somewhat watery with coffee and roast. Lightly chocolaty as well. Creamy textured body.

Bottle from Sergio’s - Pours pitch black with a thin foamy mocha head. Tastes of chocolate malt, foamy roast, oatmeal, toffee, and vinous malt. Mouthfeel is full bodied with lush carbonation. Pretty enjoyable stout, a bit overrated though.

11.2 oz bottle courtesy of mreusch. Pour is deep black with a mocha head with big carbonation bubbles in the solid foam. Beautiful in the glass. Aroma of roasted malt and some soft breadiness. Something else distinctive in the nose that I can’t quite but my finger on, candy sweetness almost - though more rounded? Taste has the roasted malt, taste has more coffee to it then nose had. There is also some nice mellow cocoa / milk chocolate sweetness and a bitter hop finish. The oatmeal really shows in the big, full body. This was a great stout, thanks Matt. 38 39 40 right at top of stout category. Thanks for this one Matt!

Creamy tan-beige head on top of a pitch black beer. The oatmeal comes through in a nice rich creaminess in the palate. Aroma and flavor are mostly dominated by coffee. Quite nice.

I didn’t care for this one as much as I enjoyed the Samuel Smith’s Oatmeal Stout. This was a bit bitter to me, and the consistency was a bit watered down. I didn’t like the spices either - I enjoy a mulled beer where you can’t quite make out every ingredient - in this you could to a point. Not a fan...too bitter.

Well, I found this at a liquor store. It was the only six pack left and I have no clue how old it was. But I am guessing it is a little past it’s prime. Overall, it was a little thin and had some soy sauce characteristics lingering in the background. hard to say if its the normal beer or if it’s just too old. Re-rate: Ok, tried this fresh recently. Still seems very overrated in my opinion, but not a bad beer by any stretch. Nice dryness to it, with lingering chocolate notes. Some smoke as well. Quite drinkable and fairly straight forward.
