Zinister (1198), Houston, Texas, USA Jan 20, 2008 Foam Rangers January meeting. Dark brownish black with tan head. Rich coffee and chocolate nose with distinct sweetness in each. Flavor is roated matls, creamy chocolate and coffee. Very nice. xmarcnolanx (789), Kirkwood, Missouri, USA Jan 13, 2008 Updated: Mar 9, 2008Aroma is.. um, diacytl? Really? or is that a coffee derived thing?
Um, shit, that’s diacytl. Taste is charred and chocolate with a lot of coffee grains. Up front it is pretty okay. Just fades away ungracefully.
Kind of thin and charred with diacytl. I’ll have to try this again. 6/3/7/3/13

Aroma is much more chocolate and coffee, mostly rich coffee with hints of a graininess. Still, touches of diacetyl.
Taste is like coffee grounds that have been freshly ground to a powder then dissolved into a stout base.
I actually get a touch of alcohol in the aroma of this, but other than that, I think this beer is nearly perfect for what it is.
I’ll give it the benefit of the doubt, despite the smaller aroma.
7/3/7/3/15 pnista (1008), Bloomington, Indiana, USA Jan 8, 2008 Wow! That is a beer isn’t it? Dark dark dark brown to black with a healthy dark tan head, thinning quickly. That thing smells like a stout too! Roast so fresh that it is fruity. Really, this is like that fruity acidity you get from a god coffee. Creamy, strangle, despite smelling like a dark cup of coffee. Decent sweetness, level. The mouthfeel is really exceptional for a beer this low in alcohol and really balanced. I mean, this thing is full and creamy, but it isn’t going to get you quite so smashed. Still, it’s not full of unfermented sugars. Or maybe it is? This roast is so intense it could stand up to any malt. Again, there’s a creamy flavor as well as that fruity acidity like in the nose. It’s even better here, in my humble opinion! Cherry? Lingering cherry to oaky finish. This is just a wonderful little beer, I’d drink this for sure if it were local and/or half as much. This kind of reminds me of a slightly more roast heavy, drier Founders Breakfast Stout. Pastor (509), Maine, USA Jan 6, 2008 Thanks Kryptic for the Bottle
Poured into a pint glass jet black with a full finger of chocolate colored head that turns to a thick lace
Aromas of dark roasted malts, chocolate, Oatmeal, and some coffee
Medium mouth feel creamy and silky finish
Flavors of roasted malts, chocolate, smoke, and coffee fill the mouth
A good oatmeal stout a great finish to the day wish it was a little thicker mouth feel though.
drewbeerme (2224), Chicago, Illinois, USA Jan 6, 2008 341ml bottle. pours black with creamy tan head. the aroma has some oats and mild coffee roast and chocolate. flavor is mildly roasted coffee and milk chocolate. a nice balance between sweet and dry. body is med but good use some thickness. this is a tasty stout. Enjoyit (1695), Vadum, Denmark Jan 6, 2008 Black of color with a nice brown head. An aroma of roasted malt, coffe, liqurice, salty notes and hints of smoke. A flavor of liqurice, salty notes, hints of smoke and coffee. JCB (1713), Durham, North Carolina, USA Jan 5, 2008 341ml bottle from alexsdad06 - thanks, Brad! Nice roasty smell, just as I remember from an earlier sample. Big and bold, and a nice rich dark color too. The flavor, however, is very prominently oaky to me. Certainly the roast and the choco malts are in there, but there’s a noticeable tart/sweet strain in there that really recalls oak barreling (and yeah, I know there’s nothing that suggests this was actually done to the beer). Just a hair too thin for my blood as well. garthicus (1215), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Jan 4, 2008 Bottle - 341 ml, LCBO-Summerhill - Lovely black-brown colour, like shoe polish, whispy brown head which clings to the glass all the way to the end. It has a very distinct coffee and chocolate aroma with undertones of smoke. Yes a very distinctive smokey-chocolate/espresso flavour with a sticky charred finish, very enjoyable, great recommendation from hogtownharry and will drink many times more (in fact, I have 5 more in the box!)
