JB175 (1654), Bucks County, Pennsylvania, USA Jan 3, 2008 Bottle from miketd - thanks! Really nice black pour with a tan head. Aroma is dominated by raw coffee and chocolate with some sourness. Flavor is chocolatey, sweet, but a tad harsh. This one isn’t bad, but it appears I’m in the minority in thinking this one is kind of mediocre. ABUSEDGOAT (1934), California, USA Jan 1, 2008 Black pour with a rich darker tan head. Aroma is silky chocolate with roast, coffee, caramel, oats. Medium to light body, but big flavors for such a small beer. Well balanced. Miksu (2187), Jyväskylä, Finland Jan 1, 2008 0.34 l bottle. Black color with creamy tan head. Sweetish and mellow aroma with coffee, hay and caramel. The flavor is sweet, a bit sugary, coffeish, caramelly and toffeish. Candy-coffee finish. Skeegle (476), Maryland, USA Dec 26, 2007 Fantastic world class stout. Tastes exactly like Bell’s Kalamazoo stout actually, but there is a bit more body here, but a slight sacrifice on pure richness. I’d give the nod to Kalamazoo by a bit. Nice coffee taste, and not burnt coffee but fresh coffee. Light brown head and black transparent body. Subdued sweetness, but as you get used to the heavily malted roast complex the sugars start to grow and come forth. Figs and cigar smoke, as well as some slight avacado? Kevin (1917), Colorado, USA Dec 24, 2007 damn i saw lumpy rated the bottle i sent him and noticed i didn’t have a rating, so i searched through my notes, and i found it.
cold as hell outside, i can hear what sounds like a drunk yelling in the street, and i am a bit envious. the blood on my arm is flaking off from where some jack ass cut me at work tonight. my feet hurt & i have some burritos in the making as i crack this open. it took a while to pour this. such a large brown head that took a while to subside. i can smell dusty brownies in this. charred almost smokey coffee notes, a chocolate truffle flavor too. very thick, and very good. this is really helping make my rough day fade. if cananda would allow me over the border i’d drive(well once i get a car and my license back) for cases of this. the bitterness of the roast & the coffee notes keep this incredibly drinkable and makes it possible for the lush sweetness not to get old. a chocolate coffee finish that is just the right balance of dry/sweet.the coffee really dominates the nose as this warms more. i’m just smiling and thinking of coffee and brownies. a beautiful beer.
5 8 9 5 19 franksnbeans (265), Columbus, Maryland, USA Dec 23, 2007 Pours out jet black with a huge dark mocha head that dies very slow. Tons of lacing going on. Smell is big on roast, coffee, cocoa an minor hop. Taste is oatmeal, bakers chocolate, coffee grinds and a bitter hop finish. Silky smooth and a little thin in the mouth. Insane drinkability, packed with awesome stout flavor but still light in the stomach. Seek this one out.
