Aroma: Deep and slightly sweet roasted malt aroma with a strong note of chocolate. Smells like chocolate malted milk. A bit of anise and spice. A light sourness, as well. Appearance: Dark brown in color with small walnut highlights. Light tan head was full and foamy with great retention. Good lacing. Flavor: Lots of roasted malt with notes of chocolate, coffee, and smoke. Anise and spice. Lots of roasted malt bitterness into the finish and beyond. Sourness returns into the finish, too. Seems a bit out of place. Palate: Medium bodied. Medium carbonation. Overall: Pretty nice beer. Lots of rich roasted malt flavor. Could use a bit more mouthfeel, but that’s a small quibble. spector (906), Lancaster, Ohio, USA

This is available in bottle and on tap. I happened to have this on tap in a nearby pub close to The University of Guelph Campus. Probably the best stout I’ve tasted. Pours very dark brown, with suprisingly minimal head. First impressions, was a very creamy, thick stouts, with hints of coffee bean, chocolate, and a slightly bitter aftertaste of cinamon. The only downside to this beer is that it takes quite a while to get through one pint, since there is so many favours. This is not a beer that should be drunk fast, but on the other hand, if it is drunk too slowly, then it can sometimes be tedius to get through. I have had it quite a few times, and I savour it each time. It is a beer that is easy to find in most Canadian LCBO’s, and any beer lover should go out and try it. Highly recomended! punkrkr27 (614), Berkley, Michigan, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 5/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Apr 15, 2007 Bottle thanks to robinvboyer. Black pour with a tall frothy tan head. Aroma of roasted oats, brown sugar, and a sourish note. Flavor is reminiscent of a mocha shake with some roasted malt. The finish is somewhat sour and astringent. Body is rich, full, and creamy. mannika (100), Toronto, Ontario, Canada
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 5/5 | 10/10 | 2/5 | 13/20 | Apr 15, 2007 Draft at C’est What. Pours a beautiful black with a frothy tan head. Aroma is interesting, smells toasty, but there is also a sourish smell, almost like tequila. Taste is very refreshing, with malty flavours as well as the promised oatmeal (the best part of the brew). Aftertaste continues a bit of that metallic sourish smell unfortunately. This used to be one of my favourite beers. If it wasn’t for the sourish aroma/flavour it would have been great, I’ll have to rate it again to see if I got a bad batch. anders37 (4571), Malmö, Sweden

| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Apr 11, 2007 Black body with a long-lasting medium tan head leaving great lacings. Creamy malted body delivers plenty of dark cake flavours. Not quite chocolate, just half-baked creamy dark cake dough. No roasted coffee beans flavours and very little in as far as bitter black chocolate goes. Everything about that beer is cake-ish. The malts are slightly caramelized (more than usual for a stout) and there’s also a little fruity sourness that reminds me of a fruit-cake. Full body and soft mouthfeel. Excellent although a tad overrated. One of the most popular, easiest to find and cheapest black beer in Quebec that also happens to be one of the best one. As attested by the multiple warrants issued against me, it’s not often that the general population and I agree on something.
