Commercial Description:
St. Ambroise Oatmeal Stout consistently beats out international stouts in blind tastings and competitions. This intensely black ale carries strong hints of espresso and chocolate. The oatmeal contributes body and ensures a long-lasting mocha-coloured head. If you like stout, you will love St. Ambroise Oatmeal Stout.

[118-20061126] 341mL. Hints of chocolate and nutty coffee in the aroma. Dark dark brown-black body with a long-lasting brown-red foamy head. Flavour is very rich bitter coffee, still the dark chocolate hazelnutty present with a little medicine. Full heavy and thick body with a bitter tongue feel. Nicely comes together.

Bottle. Thick and very creamy brown good looking lasting head. Very dark red, only by means of my lamp I could see that it is not entirely black. Coffee aroma with citrus notes and choccolate. Relatively high bitterness and a bit thin mouthfeel. Long aftertaste of choccolate and hops.

12-oz, courtesy of Maria--thank you! This was probably the last stout of the night, and speculation ensued that taste buds may have been weakened by the evening’s proceedings. But what’s opened is opened, and should be rated for now. This is a lovely black beer with a thick creamy moussy tan head, just the classic picture of a stout. Big vinous dark fruited nose, with coffee and chocolate lingering in secondary roles. Forward attack, with big body, active carb, and some lively flavor: more of the lightly sweet fruitiness but this time playing second fiddle to the coffee and roast, along with sharply attenuated red wine grape that really ascends at the finish and leaves a clingy astringent dryness. Not very sessionable, but beautifully crafted and delicious.

12oz bottle. Dark black pour with tan khaki head. Nose full of roasted malts, espresso , chocolate & coffee. Good stout but not great IMO. I like more body.

Number 600! Bottle thanks to a trade with Boutip. Pours walnut-black in color with a minimal brown head. The aroma is strong with molasses and also has some burnt grain and a hint of metal. Enjoyable. The flavor is lively for a stout. Burnt grains, hints of metal, molasses and malt. Notes of charcoal. Perhaps some wood notes. Good. Medium body that is wet at first and finishes semi-dry. An enjoyable stout. I can see why this is a site favorite.

Bottle from trade with HogtownHarry. Thanks buddy! Pour is darkness with a huge, tan head in my Spirit Haus glass. Aroma of cocoa, espresso, roasted malts, and little dark fruity tang as a finale. This is a very easy drinking stout. Hops present on the palate along with a little sourness. Solid beer from Motown! Thanks Harry!

Bottle: Black pour with a massive, frothy tan head and great lacing. Nose is primarily roasted malt and some sweet cocoa notes. Taste is more roasted malt, chocolate, coffee, and slight hints of fruits. Very smooth and well balanced taste. It’s great, but a little more flavor intensity would bump up the rating even more. Thanks to Slob for this gem.
