Commercial Description:
St. Ambroise Oatmeal Stout consistently beats out international stouts in blind tastings and competitions. This intensely black ale carries strong hints of espresso and chocolate. The oatmeal contributes body and ensures a long-lasting mocha-coloured head. If you like stout, you will love St. Ambroise Oatmeal Stout.

Poured from a bottle into a stem glass, this stout pours black as midnight with a coca-cola colored head that left minimal lacing on my glass. The flavor was roasty and rich with a slightly bitter choclate undertone. Although there was an obvious creamy texture to the beer itself, the finish was mysteriously slightly acidic. Altogether a very nice find in a place where good local beer is not that readily available.

11.2 oz bottle. Pours thick and dark with a thick head that slowly fades. This beer smells exactly like a mash, raw grains, hot water and all the enzyme conversions going on. I’m not turned off by this aroma but as it lasts all the glass down, it is enjoyable. Nice creamy mouthfeel, full, with flavors that don’t seem to match. Chocolate, roast, and bitter, but for all that build up, the flavor falls off. Bitter finish the way bad diner coffee does. Hmm, maybe not the best of bottles. Not sure of the date here, but i’d like to try this fresh.

Purchased a six pack on an impulse. Aroma is a little yeasty at first then I get a whiff of roasted espresso and hints of chocolate. Pours black with a dark tan thick long lasting head. Textbook stout in appearance. Taste is nice unsweetened chocolate and coffee with a nice bitter finish. Perfect beer for the holidays.

Bottled. Almost black with a small head. Roasted and malty with notes of spices, chocolate and coffee. Somewhat hoppy finish.

Bottle generously given to me by Ross on our first trade. I had been wanting that for awhile. This says best by nov 30. 2006. Uh oh! Pours deep brown black with a brown head. Strong aroma of dark chocolate and burnt malts. Nice slick mouthfeel. Initial flavor of dark roasted malt, unsweetened chocolate, dried oats, and peppery hops. Very expresso like bitter finish. Not much sweetness at all on this one. My first bottle, so I am not sure if this is past its prime or not. Good, but I would love to try a fresh one.

Bottle courtesy of boutip. Pours opaque with an average brown fizzy head, diminishes, spare lacing. Aroma is average malt (caramel, nutty, roasted), light hops (flowers), heavy yeast (dough, leather) with notes of oats and sour milk. Light sweetness, heavy bitterness, moderate acidity, heavy roasted coffee malt and sour yeast. Full bodied, spicy texture, minerals at the end.

What a lovely dark beer with a very substantial head. There is a hint of something in the taste but I can’t really put my finger on it. Very goo

From a 12oz Bottle. Deep black, chocolatey murky pour with a marvelously sustaining head of deep toasty brown. Thick aroma of oatmeal - lots of oats present with a pleasant toasted character. A pinch of smokey characters as well, along with some dark chocolate tones. Light to medium bodied mouthfeel with a nice effervescence. Lots of flavor packed into a relatively light bodied beer. I love the subtle smoked character I’m getting. This beer has some niced chocolate, roasty, oatmeal, and even a touch of sour saltiness going on , which are fantasticly constructed and balanced, but are not powerful enough to blow me away. Quite delicious overall, and fabulously complex for the style. Thanks, Sammy!
