Very dark reddish with bog dense brown head. Aroma of roasted malts, sugar, wood and hops. Fairly dry toasted taste, long lingering bitterness of roasted malts. Medium bodied. Great thx to Lubiere for giving me this treat!

for the stouts i can get in northern ontario, this is incredible. on tap is easily one of th best stouts Canada has to offer. very nice flavours of coffee, and chocolate, and smoke. beatiful coffee finish, and a nice bitterness to it. great beer.

Black with a lasting light brown head. Caramel, brown sugar, a little spice and lightly smoked aroma. Sweet and quite full bodied.

341 mL bottle. A day or two ago, I wrote that St. Peter’s Winter Ale could be the darkest beer I’ve seen. Ladies and gentlemen, we have a new winner. It’s black. The head is darker than most beers. Sweet smell of caramel, expresso, and roasted malt. Taste is not as sweet as expected. The expresso is still present, and is joined by bittersweet dark chocolate. Hops arrive at the end to give it a mostly nice finish; it also becomes a little vinegary at the end. This stout has a very full mouthfeel. Good, but I still prefer Sinha, when I can find it.

It’s a pitch black beer with a huge, creamy and light brown head. The aroma has lots of roasted malt, chocolate and coffee. The flavour is smooth and round, but it also has a bitterness from the hard roasted malt, a light sourness from the oats and notes of chocolate and coffee. The finish is incredibly long and the flavour is developing from start to the end. It’s impressive that all that taste can be found in a beer with only 5% - well done!!! 1719

500th rating! (For the beer, not for me). Pours opaque black with nice tan sudsy head. Full aroma with coffee, chocolate, candied fruits. In the mouth it’s more of the same, starting sweet, but finishing dry and slightly bitter. Unfortunately, as others have noted, the flavor sort of deserts the beer at the end, and it turns a little watery. That it does is especially disappointing given how strong it started, both in aroma and in the mouth. I was drinking it a month past the "best before" date, so maybe that has something to do with it.

Poured from a bottle into a stem glass, this stout pours black as midnight with a coca-cola colored head that left minimal lacing on my glass. The flavor was roasty and rich with a slightly bitter choclate undertone. Although there was an obvious creamy texture to the beer itself, the finish was mysteriously slightly acidic. Altogether a very nice find in a place where good local beer is not that readily available.
