Commercial Description:
St. Ambroise Oatmeal Stout consistently beats out international stouts in blind tastings and competitions. This intensely black ale carries strong hints of espresso and chocolate. The oatmeal contributes body and ensures a long-lasting mocha-coloured head. If you like stout, you will love St. Ambroise Oatmeal Stout.

Poured an opaque brown color with a nice tan head that left a good amount of lacing on the glass. Had an aroma of chocolate and coffee. It had a sweet dry taste of chocolate and oatmeal. Dry finish. Rather thin mouthfeel, I was expecting alittle more out of this brew after reading the reviews. Still I am glad to have tried it, thanks Rastacouere!

Many thanks to Mr. Skyview! Black color with a thin head. Slightly smoky aroma with a little Lysol character. Very peppery taste. Black pepper. It’s kind of like eating kippered beef jerky. Salty and bone dry malt. A little chocolate and coffee. I don’t know how they think this could be a sweet stout, but I love it all the same.

2003 bottle consumed in December 2003. Extremely deep black, nice finger and a half dark ruby brown head. Moderate lacing. Aroma is dark dark roast. Heavy bitter coffee, some smoke? Good bitter hops, and some tart prunes mayhaps. Flavor gets a few extra points for originality. Heavily roasty, not overly sweet at all. Body is thick, oily, sticky. Medium body, HIGHLY carbonated (too much so). Like there’s some sour milk in there, but not in a bad way. . . Finish is pleasant and balanced, but a bit too lacking. After I drank more and it warmed, I picked up a lovely smoked flavor, I think it was just the roasted oatmeal, but it was nice. Needs more, though I love not overtop beers, so maybe this is quite nice. . .hmm, shall rerate soon from the other bottles I am cellaring. Filtered unfortunately. Thank you, Oakes, for sendin these my way!
2005 bottle Fresh. And freshness is the key, as it is with all McAuslan beers (except the vintages). The beer is one of the foremost accomplishments in brewing today of the example of rich, full flavor without being overdone or full of alcohol. Chocolatey, creamy, hearty, but yet supremely drinkable. Even the filtration and artificial carbonation don’t seem to hinder the texture when fresh. Lightly creamy, plenty of vanilla and moderate roast. Score is for a fresh bottle, as that is how it should be consumed.

(341 ml bottle, purchased at Ölbutikken, Copenhagen, Denmark) Black color, big bubbly brown head. Sweet chocolate dipped raissin mixed with red wine scent. Strange mix that for me is part nice and part yucky. Very roasted and burnt taste with some coffee, rather dry at first that turns to very dry in the end. Thin mouthfeel at first that dries up fast, all the salive dissapears. Medium high bitterness.

BCTC 07. Nice deep pitch black color with a creamy lasting tan head. Aroma is fruity, estery with plums, raisins, and some dark chocolate with just bits of roast. Smooth creamy mouthfeel with lots of chocolate malts and a doughy full oatmeal taste, hints of cereal, and light coffee. Good smooth finish. Great Oatmeal stout.

(Draught) An excellent stout! I am fortunate enough to have a local pub that carries this fine beer on draught. An nice, thick dark brown head hides the molasses-rich coloured beverage that is about to be enjoyed. Flavours of cocoa with a slight follow-through tartness. Far better on draught - too smokey in the bottle.

(Stockholm Beer Festival 2007) Bottle. Black, creamy brown head. Malty, vinous chocolate aroma. Chocolate flavor, vinous, some tar and vinegar.
