Commercial Description:
St. Ambroise Oatmeal Stout consistently beats out international stouts in blind tastings and competitions. This intensely black ale carries strong hints of espresso and chocolate. The oatmeal contributes body and ensures a long-lasting mocha-coloured head. If you like stout, you will love St. Ambroise Oatmeal Stout.

Yes, this one's a winner. Thick, roasted, burnt malt flavor makes it very drinkable. Where can I get more?

12-oz, courtesy of Maria--thank you! This was probably the last stout of the night, and speculation ensued that taste buds may have been weakened by the evening’s proceedings. But what’s opened is opened, and should be rated for now. This is a lovely black beer with a thick creamy moussy tan head, just the classic picture of a stout. Big vinous dark fruited nose, with coffee and chocolate lingering in secondary roles. Forward attack, with big body, active carb, and some lively flavor: more of the lightly sweet fruitiness but this time playing second fiddle to the coffee and roast, along with sharply attenuated red wine grape that really ascends at the finish and leaves a clingy astringent dryness. Not very sessionable, but beautifully crafted and delicious.

(Rating #1217)

The best beer I have tasted in a while. Black with a tall brown head, generous lace. Burnt toast aroma, also some coffee, licorice, and an earthy quality. Massive roasted malt palate, molasses, coffee, bitter chocolate. Heavy creamy mouthfeel. Awesome!

Bottle pours black with two inch mocha head. The aroma is promising to start with a pleasing mix of roasted malts, toffee, burnt malts and some oatmeal twang. The taste is bold and roasty with burnt malts, roasted malts and mild toffee. By midway the burnt malts re-double their assertiveness along side mild malt astringency. The oatmeal comes up a bit short in the flavor and the mouth feel. Still very nice offering.

One of the better North American breweries puts out one of the continent’s best stouts. Pours black through and through with an appealingly tinted and lively head. Body is just right: not thin but not sticky either. Smooth: making "I’ll have another" come to mind before you are halfway through. Bitterness and strong chocolate malt flavors leave your tongue happy after every sip.

A very silky oily pour, black and bubbly with a small brown ring of foam. Creamy roasted coffee aroma and a bit of toasty oats and walnuts. Buttery toffee malts, butterscotch and creamy oatmeal frosting and definitely has a great full bodied mouthfeel. Just the slightest hint of creamy roasted coffee, perfectly balanced sweetness that makes for an extremely easy drink. Seriously one of the best stouts I have ever tried. Wonderful lingering bittersweet chocolate finish.
