The aroma is toffee, walnut, raisin, and hints of coffee and berries. The flavor has more coffee than the nose, with a robust smoked meat quality. It has a subtle sweetness that reminds me of yogurt-covered raisins. Finish is much like cocoa powder. The mouthfeel is carbonated, but without harming the robustness. Good stuff. travita (1927), Frisco, Texas, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Nov 28, 2009 Dark look, black in color, decent tan colored head. The smell is roasty, oats, coffee, chocolate, slight sweetness, and malts. The taste is slight bitterness, coffee, chocolate, roast, and malts. Shag (1923), Chattanooga, Tennessee, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Jun 3, 2008 A black appearance with a moderate tan head. The aroma is rather mild and contains some chocolate, oatmeal, and a hint of coffee. The flavor is slightly bitter with some chocolate, oatmeal, dark fruit. Doesn’t seem to live up to the hype of the past but still a solid stout. Kevin (1918), Colorado, USA
| 4.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 19/20 | Dec 24, 2007 damn i saw lumpy rated the bottle i sent him and noticed i didn’t have a rating, so i searched through my notes, and i found it.
cold as hell outside, i can hear what sounds like a drunk yelling in the street, and i am a bit envious. the blood on my arm is flaking off from where some jack ass cut me at work tonight. my feet hurt & i have some burritos in the making as i crack this open. it took a while to pour this. such a large brown head that took a while to subside. i can smell dusty brownies in this. charred almost smokey coffee notes, a chocolate truffle flavor too. very thick, and very good. this is really helping make my rough day fade. if cananda would allow me over the border i’d drive(well once i get a car and my license back) for cases of this. the bitterness of the roast & the coffee notes keep this incredibly drinkable and makes it possible for the lush sweetness not to get old. a chocolate coffee finish that is just the right balance of dry/sweet.the coffee really dominates the nose as this warms more. i’m just smiling and thinking of coffee and brownies. a beautiful beer.

Nose is malt, coffe, some chocolate. Flavor is malt, light coffee, some nutty flavors, a touch sweet. Aside from the Storm King, the best I’ve had thus far. Thanks again, Len! frankenkitty (1903), Oak Lawn, Illinois, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jun 2, 2006 A viscous pour produced a black-bodied brew with a reverse-cascade forming a creamy, dark tan head that lasted and laced. Burnt coffee roasted aroma with milk chocolate gets me salivating. Additional wort and buried alcohol. Heavy and oily mouthfeel with a well-roasted, bitter flavor. Finish feel is dry with a finish flavor that is both sour and buttery... yet the lingering impression reverts to bitter coffee and dark chocolate. Awesome... I needed a good beer!

Oatmeal, Copper, Espresso, Hops dominate the aroma. Taste is very smooth, with evident chocolate, and oatmeal. A pretty darn good stout.
