Rich aroma of roasted malt, mocha and cigarette ashes (but not in a bad way). Flavor has big notes of roastiness, mocha and a nice, burnt ash-y type of flavor. Next comes notes of coffee, dark chocolate and caramel. Moderately sweet and moderately bitter. Medium bodied with a smooth texture and subtle carbonation - a touch on the thin side. GREAT head retention and lacing left on the glass. Really good stuff. JMFG (1514), Florida, USA

Sweet roasty aroma with a touch of nuttiness and earth in the background. Roast component lays nicely under a vaguely lactose mouthfeel. Bitter dark chocolate finish that is lasting and tasty. Rich, smooth, and roasty. 17thfloor (1514), Chicago, Illinois, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Sep 2, 2008 Pours near black with a large foamy tan froth. Sweet oatmeal aroma with some notes of dry coffee, dark chocolate and burnt molasses. Weak palate, watery body with soft but larger carbonation bubbles. The sweet smooth oatmeal plays interestingly off the coffee, if you want to know what this tastes like... take a bite of oatmeal then wash it down with black burnt coffee... maybe with one sugar in it. Easy drinking for a stout. Eructoblaster (1510), Gatineau, Quebec, Canada
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Mar 8, 2004 Very nice black stout topped with generous and creamy brown head. Incredible roasted malt, coffee and dark chocolate nose and long-lasting taste. For that price (around 1,60 CAD), this is undoubtedly the best tasting beer you can get! asheft (1510), Marburg, Germany

Totally opaque black with some dark ruby at clear parts of the glass. Light brown fizzy and foamy head. Grape and wine aroma with floral hops and fruity notes: apple, cherry, wood. Also sweet molasses in the aroma. The flavour begins with a gentle bitterness that yields to some fruit and then escalates to a robust molasses and roasted flavour. Peach and celery notes and a bitterness that comes from both the hops and malts. Chewy, full body with medium carbonation and a clean finish. Excellent. Strykzone (1505), Wood River, Illinois, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Sep 2, 2009 Black as midnight. Thick chewy tan head that settles with a craters on the moon effect. A very nice nose of dark fruit, dark chocolate, and roasted notes. Flavor is dark chocolate with everything else secondary. A nice hop profile, coffee, and gobs of roasted notes. Figs, and plums. Finish was a bit thin. What a delightful stout! shadey (1501), Rochester, New York, USA
| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Aug 23, 2004 Updated: Dec 9, 2007Initial Rating (8/23/2004). HUGE thanks to slikwily for this beautiful beer. The pour is a creamy black with a tan creamy head that last quite a while. The aroma is all dark chocolate, rich and smooth. The taste is a delicious match with a chocolate and coffee flavor and a bitter chocolate aftertaste. Outstanding.
Two 2007 Bottles acquired in trade. Pour is absolutely lucious. Black matte with a luxurious head of frothy tan cream. Lace coats the glass. Aroma is really enticing, rich malted chocolate (like chocolate malt balls). The flavor is mild bitterness and rich chocolate. The body is perfect. I wish this was distributed to NY. My numbers were right the first time. KyotoLefty (1501), Kyoto, Japan
