This was soo upsetting, i mean i dont like stouts generally, but this was something i was soo looking forward too but no one at the table wanted to drink it and we left over half of it, it was a dreadful attempt at a beer. Liquire and roasty malt character, some coffee in there too. Really one dimentional and utterly rubbish beer. Im suprised i gave it over a 1. hopscotch (5525), Vero Beach, Florida, USA

The aroma holds huge notes of milk chocolate and hickory smoke with lesser notes of vanilla, dark coffee, cinnamon and toasted nuts.
This stout pours thick and black. Even when held up to extremely bright light, this beer is black, black, black! A lazer beam shot from the head of a "frickin’ shark" couldn’t pass through this glass of liquid fudge. Large, rocky, deeply tanned head. Mostly diminishing with excellent lacing.
The flavor is extremely well balanced. Bursts of smoke, espresso and dark chocolate up front. Excellent blend of acidity, mild bitterness and a light tartness on the backside. Just a hint of vanilla on the tongue.
Medium-bodied with a watery mouthfeel. Fizzy carbonation and a short crisp, clean, dry finish.
This gem has a balanced flavor rarely found in an Oatmeal Stout. Sweet Stout??? I don’t think so. CaptainCougar (5522), Rockville, Maryland, USA

Aroma of semi-sweet, earthy dark chocolate and roasted malts. Taste of roasted oats and chocolate malt, with a relatively full mouthfeel. Finishes smooth, bittersweet and roasty, a nice oatmeal stout. Bov (5490), Bienne, Switzerland

Medium to full bodied, with an extremely well balanced flavour. Smoky mocha chocolate characters, with touches of licorice. The flavour seems to go forever, very good indeed, especially for 5%, yum! | 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | May 18, 2004 Deepest brown, nearly black; brown-greige head, thick & dense, leaving lace. Nose of burnt coffee, cigar tobacco, dark green leaves (aucuba...). Dark black coffee taste, fully roasted grain. There is a definite grain taste -vaguely reminiscent of diet flakes, all-bran, Knäckebrod, etc. - oatmeal, no doubt. Very bitter finish, both burnt grain and hops - not very noble though. Not very well-bodied, rather watery texture, the oatmeal notwithstanding. This is certainly a good stout. But where it hails its world-classic status from, is an enigma to me.
