Commercial Description:
St. Ambroise Oatmeal Stout consistently beats out international stouts in blind tastings and competitions. This intensely black ale carries strong hints of espresso and chocolate. The oatmeal contributes body and ensures a long-lasting mocha-coloured head. If you like stout, you will love St. Ambroise Oatmeal Stout.

Deep deep brown black under an awesome medium dark tan head which lasts well and generates a generous ring like lace most of the way down the glass. Surprisingly mild roasted malt aroma with hints of earth, coffee and chocolate. Surprisingly light, almost cola like thin, but wonderful velvety smooth body. Medium light roasted bitter malt and lighter milk sweetness flavours. Short medium bitter fresh finish and aftertaste.

12oz - Thanks Crosling - Aroma has lots of roasted dark malts, oatmeal, chocolate, touch of cream, some hop bitterness and even a little smoke. Pours black with a big brown head and great lacing. Flavor matches aroma. Palate is creamy with an ashy dry finish. A tasty stout.

The aroma is mostly hops. It got an excellent chocolate favor and pleasant finish. I really like this beer! Thanks MartinT

Well, it’s not a 4.0 but it’s not bad. Brown, almost black pour, with a medium light brown head, vanishes, moderate lacing. Nose of coffee and dark malts. Taste of coffee, dark malts, some chocolate, and some hops in the finish. Not a Storm King or an Expedition or a Beer Geek breakfast. Bonus points for succeeding with low alcohol.

11.2 oz bottle

I decided to give this a try this week after having it for a while now. I’ve been sampling too many mediocre and so-so beers without giving the cream of the crop a shot. This one toes that line for me. It might just be that I am not a huge fan of releases which taste like thinned black coffee but something kept this from making the jump from "excellent" to "outstanding". Nonetheless it is worth tracking down if you ever drive through Ohio.

Aroma / Appearance - A thin tan head was less than I’d been expecting though still nice to look at. Underneath was a deep black body with fluidity that rivaled lighter stouts. The nose was that of a standard American breakfast - black coffee without cream, oatmeal and jam on toast. It was on par with Breakfast Stout (another beer that I don’t like as much as others).

Flavor / Palate - The first sip felt as if this had been cut with a bit of water. Once I got past that it was a solid experience of hot cocoa with cinnamon, strong black coffee and a resiliant bitterness that punched through everything. I can’t say that I am a huge fan of the coffee stout style but this one is one of the best that I have had to date.

Definitely a dark pour, especially for a 5% beer. Nice generous mocha-colored head (ha... I swear I just read that in the beer’s description after writing this!) and great lacing, too. First impression of the nose was a hoppy and oatmealy nose. Expresso, too, and roast, as well as something almost fruity. Sweet. Nice complexity on the palate, with a finish that brings back some malty sweetness and that almost fruity thing. Very good. I think I can pretty confidently say it’s the most complex 5% beer I’ve ever had.

Bottle, best before 12/31/05. Black color with a small tan head. Aroma of dark roasted malts, coffee and a touch of butter. Flavor is similar, with a touch of dark chocolate in there also. Excessive carbonation takes something away from this beer. Still quite good.

First, let say that I was not impressed.this was a little watery for me as the body just seemed lacking.Toasted malts with almost appeared to be a mild minty flavor mixed with a light coffee tone.Finished a little bitter. Thanks jer_craigs and obisbeer.
