| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Dec 17, 2003 Huge thanks go out to Rastacouere for helping me out with my first International Canadian trade!
Well, Appearance certainly rates in with a 5. Pours an opaque jet-black body and gathers a massive toffee colored head and mocha globs of lacing. The aroma is a cauldron of coffee and mocha, a rich Belgian chocolate. I take a sip from the snifter, Damn!!! The chocolate malts are far more roasted and charred than I was expecting! Very modest note of the Oatmeal grain, but overcome with smoky dark oak notes.
The mouth feel is a bit thin, a creamier texture would have scored more points wit me, Overall this is a very tasty beer, maybe a little overrated by my personal standards but I do recommend seeking some out so you can make a judgment of your own!
Thanks Dave, You Rock!!!
Later Comment: The use of the word MOCHA was not taken from the RB beer description, I just realized it that it is printed at toe top of the page and I wanted to clarify that I am not a poser stealing others words and thoughts! DrBayern (1137), Morehead City, North Carolina, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Feb 12, 2009 12 oz. bottle. Opaque brown/black body under a creamy tan head and decent lace. Aroma of chocolate and coffee, some nice vanilla, and hints of spice. Full, creamy body, lighlty carbonated, amooth and dry on the palate. Treacle and chocolate sweetness, softly bittered for a nice balance. A very smooth and drinkable stout. Gregis (1136), Shawnee, Kansas, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jul 3, 2008 Bottles courtesy of mreusch and kmweaver. Thanks for the bottles guys! Pours jet black with a loose, creamy, tan head that laces nicely. The nose is of lactose, dark roasted coffee and dark chocolate. The mouthfeel is medium-bodied and silky-slick with a bitter-roasted and mildly dry finish. The flavor really opens up on this one as it warms: roasted dark malt, coffee and dark chocolate with a lightly bitter hop note at the finish. I began drinking this one a bit too cool, but once it warmed a bit more, it transformed into an exceptionally smooth and tasty stout. This beer would make an excellent poster child for illustrating the importance of proper serving temperature. piscator34 (1134), Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada

The promise of chocolate and burnt coffee made by the nose is delivered in the mouth. This is a fantastic beer. The only small criticism I would have is that it could have a bit more weight in the mouth. I wish this beer was more widely available in Canada. Kaya161 (1129), San Diego, California, USA

The aroma is roasted malt, some coffee, and a smooth sweet oatmeal. The flavor is similar to the nose with the sweetness coming out a bit more and combining with the nice roasted malts and coffee. A little bitter chocolate in the finish. Medium bodied, creamy smooth mouthfeel. I’m glad someone brought this to Cincy.
