Commercial Description:
St. Ambroise Oatmeal Stout consistently beats out international stouts in blind tastings and competitions. This intensely black ale carries strong hints of espresso and chocolate. The oatmeal contributes body and ensures a long-lasting mocha-coloured head. If you like stout, you will love St. Ambroise Oatmeal Stout.

[bottle, 341ml] Jet black, nice long-lasting tan head. Terrific nose, torrefied notes, touch of coffee, plenty of black treacle and hops lurking at the back. Moderate condition, well-balanced body, nice and malty, again treacle, hint of coffee, licorice too, silky, biscuity edge from the oats, hops working their way up. Complex roasty and bitter finish, with hops gradually taking the upper hand. One to convionce people, especially ladies, that there’s more to stout tahn big-brand black water. :o)

From the bottle, with many thanks to Secret Santa 07, pours black with a thick tan head and thick, residual foamy lacing down the sides. Vey nice aroma, rather bread-y, with a hint of chocolate and alcohol. Taste is smooth with flavors of cappuccino, chocolate, alcohol. Very smooth, hardly any aftertaste, except a light touch of coffee/espresso. Thinner than I anticipated, but overall very good. Thank you Santa.

Once again, a beauty from MrManning! Black pour, nice, brown head. Nose is malt, coffe, some chocolate. Flavor is malt, light coffee, some nutty flavors, a touch sweet. Aside from the Storm King, the best I’ve had thus far. Thanks again, Len!

Bottle thanks to madsberg: Black pour with a small tan head. Aroma of oats, coffee and chocolate. Flavor, sweet up front, with oats, rich malts and chocolate. Leading to a bittersweet finish. Nice and creamy, a little sticky on the tail end. I’ve wanted to try this for a long time and it was worth the wait.

12oz bottle from Ron’s in Farmington. Pours opaque black body with a half inch or so of tan head. Tastes roasty, like baker’s chocolate with molasses notes and slight oatmeal taste toward the finish. Medium-bodied with a fair amount of carbonation. Nothing wrong with this brew - just a solid tasty oatmeal stout.

Quite the excellent stout I have to say! I love my stouts sweet and this one comes thru in the clutch. Aroma is coffe, nutty, caramel, toffe, vanilla and chocolate. Super complex nose. Appearance has that look like coffe that’s been evaporated in half and looks like sludge, completely coating the inside of your glass and mouth. Flavors were much the same in the nose, but a malty sweetness comes out wrapping the whole thing most astounding. One of the best I’ve had.

Rerating: Bottle from LCBO/The Sapphire Lounge. Poured black with very little head. Nose is of dark chocolate and well-brewed coffee. Taste is slightly bitter with strong notes of chocolate, coffee followed by hazelnuts. Mouthfeel is medium-thin and the body is just right for this stout. One of my top beers to this day.

Beautiful. Intense. Intimidating. This lovely quebecois stout pours an inky black; dark as night, and is topped by an enormous, delicious looking, oatmeal colored frothy brown head. The aromas here are intertwined and complex- rich, dark cacao nibs with lightly roasted French coffee, oatmeal cookies, cream, delicate dark berries, and tiramisu. Creamy, luscious, oily, and velvety smooth on the palate, this beer first hits the tongue with notes of french roast java and dark, heavily toasted/burnt caramelly malt. Further sips bring hints of luscious single-origin dark chocolate- bittersweet and complex, balanced by the fruity and tangy dryness of the hops. This stout is medium-bodied, not overpoweringly rich or alcoholic, and has a delicate drinkability that makes this an ideal beer for chocolate pairings or even session drinking and conversations with friends. It is warming yet bitter, crisp and fruity. The tastes are so seemlessly blended and, though the burnt, dark chocolate basically defines the beer, the stringent, bittering, and appetizingly drying hops make a very important contribution in the finish and keep this stout balanced, lively and complex, with a soft and harmonious character that keeps giving. A very well-crafted beer.
