Commercial Description:
St. Ambroise Oatmeal Stout consistently beats out international stouts in blind tastings and competitions. This intensely black ale carries strong hints of espresso and chocolate. The oatmeal contributes body and ensures a long-lasting mocha-coloured head. If you like stout, you will love St. Ambroise Oatmeal Stout.

A perennial favourite. To this day, its' dark pour and chocolate brown head bring a smile to my face. An olfactory medley draws me close. Beguiling malts and a hoppy smack in the face finish with a lingering sweetness. I've come to enjoy this black beauty with a slice of fresh, warm pecan pie and a side of French vanilla ice cream.

Really looked forward trying this at the summer party. Multilayered hue and a nice tan head, good lacing. Full-bodied. Awesome aroma with vanilla and chocolate hints, espresso, prunes and oats (duh). Taste was balanced between malts and hops, vinous. Fizzy to start but softer mouthfeel as I drank it. Outstanding beer, worthy of the praise, but I still like Samuel Smith's Oatmeal better.

(Bottled, thanks oh6gdx!) Very dark brown with a firm and long-lasting, beige head. Very roasty, smoky, tarry and malty aroma with some lactic sourness and malt sweetness. Surprisingly earthy, quite smoky, tarry and lightly licoricey flavor with eucalyptus, and lots of roasted and some burned malt, dark chocolate, and a dry, ashy bitterness in the long finish. Medium-bodied, pretty silky-smooth palate with low to medium carbonation. An excellent, complex and throughly enjoyable stout - especially for the low ABV! This might even be better than Fuller’s London Porter...

Could have rated this quite a while ago... A beautiful black, with a large, frothy, chocolate-tan head and nice lacing. Aroma is malty sweet, roasted, tangy, frutiy berries, coffee, chocolate. Mmm. Tastes roasted choco-coffee, fresh, lightly citrusy hops, malty, finishes deliciously bitter and a little sour-sweet. Feels pretty rich in the mouth, my only complaint in the palate-department is that sometimes it feels a bit too "sharp", but sip it, and let it settle in the glass a bit and it should be fine. Very good.

Very black body with brown head. Every mouthful is filled with somptuous coffee and roast aromas. The alcohol makes this beer very warming and it ends with a deep and long lasting roast finish.

Had this one on tap at REBEL’s ROCK IRISH PUB in Hamilton, Ontario. Poured a black body, withg a trhick and frothy caramel coloured head. Sweet aromas of mild malt, coffee, and chocolate. Tastes like caramel, and sweet malty, but I find it just a little watery on the finish. Full bodied though for the most part. Heavy lacing on the glass as well. This could have been a 5.0 had it not been for the somewhat watery finish. A great Canadian product in any event. Update os overall to 18. Drinkability plays a factor in this.

Many thanks to muzzlehatch for trading a bottle of this to me. My #52 rating, putting me in the #3 Vermont rater spot. :) (For now.) Pours absolutely opaque black with a huge brown head; tan lacing all the way down the glass. Aroma is beefy (well, not literally), with coffee, chocolate, caramel, malt, and hops very noticeable; wonderfully sweet, roasty smell. Rolling this along across my tongue, the beer gets richer as it starts to froth up, and the sharp sweetness really comes out. Flavor is predominantly of coffee and chocolate, and the finish is wonderfully balanced--mildly bitter and not at all overdone. Body is a bit on the thin side, though, but flavor, aroma, and appearance make up for it. Overall, this is easily among the best beers I have ever had. This is a superb oatmeal stout; just plain enjoyable to drink. I only wish I could easily get more.

mmm, mmm, good. This beer is completely black and opaque with a solid tan head. Great roasty chocolate aroma. The first taste is of sweet chocolate and finishes with roast and espresso bitterness.
