Commercial Description:
St. Ambroise Oatmeal Stout consistently beats out international stouts in blind tastings and competitions. This intensely black ale carries strong hints of espresso and chocolate. The oatmeal contributes body and ensures a long-lasting mocha-coloured head. If you like stout, you will love St. Ambroise Oatmeal Stout.

330mL bottle from the Beer Store. Pour looks like extremely thick coffee, or maybe motor oil. In the glass, this is completely opaque to light - not just the dark transparency of Guinness, but completely black. The head is dark tan, leaves lots of lace, and decreases to a half-inch, rocky collar within a few minutes. One of the most aesthetically attractive beers I’ve ever seen. The aroma is like no beer I’ve ever tried before - espresso, chocolate, burnt malt, with a tinge of alcohol. Taste - wow. Think of the blackest of black coffee you’ve ever had in your life. There’s a touch of sweetness on the tip of the tongue, but past that, it’s all coffee. For the style, I can’t think of anything that can compare in utter taste and power. Mouthfeel is rich and thick, moderate carbonation. However, I don’t think that I could drink this beer every day. It would likely override my ability to enjoy less intense beers. Definitely a good breakfast beer, and an amazing beer in general.

Bottle 341ml This one is as dark as it gets, with a thick and lasting creamy brown head. The aroma is intense expresso with dark chocolate and hints of caramel. The taste is an explosion of coffee, chocolate, malts, well hopped, very well balance. An extremely solid oatmeal stout!

11.5 oz bottle. New to Consumers, I went out on a limb and got a 4-pack (along with an Old Rasputin 4pk, oh happy stoutie days). Nice black coloring, brown head, good lacing. Flavor as stated is typical chocolate coffee, very smooth and flavorful. Would have expected a higher ABV though and that cost it a couple points. As it warmed it gained a very smooth roasted flavor I quite enjoy.

bottle. an excellent stout. pours a dark black with a good sized tan head. nice lacing throughout. Superb aroma - full of espresso, dark cherries, and chocolate. Smooth body overall - very soft on the sides and top... bitter up front and some dark cherry towards the back. Chocolate cake finish that leaves rather quickly, but leaves you wanting more.

bottle - my personal favorite for stouts. Pours jet black with a nice tan head. Aroma is complex with coffee/chocolate. Very smooth creamy body with a smokey taste. Just overall a great stout.

Bottle. Aroma of the corner coffee shop. I’m not a huge coffee drinker, in fact I probably drink coffee about four times a year, but this aroma just feels like a lovely, refreshing foray into a local, homely coffee establishment, and I love it. Sure there’s probably some more specific flavors in there, but in this case it’s definitely about the forest, not the trees. Flavor largely continues in this vain but also with some nice bitter chocolate/chocolate with bittering hops. Appearance almost garnered the rare 5, but the head wasn’t quite as refined as I require for a 5, dissipated a bit too fast...it’s pretty, I’d give it a 4.5, I’m just rambling to logically justify to myself my intense internal pull away from the 5. Mouthfeel solid, nothing special, nothing wanting. Great brew.

One of my favorite stouts. Combines a great rich coffee flavor with a smooth drinkability. Great dark body with a tan head. A great stout all around.
