Commercial Description:
St. Ambroise Oatmeal Stout consistently beats out international stouts in blind tastings and competitions. This intensely black ale carries strong hints of espresso and chocolate. The oatmeal contributes body and ensures a long-lasting mocha-coloured head. If you like stout, you will love St. Ambroise Oatmeal Stout.

Re-Rate 06/06/02: Deep brown to black in color, large frothy chocolate head, great sheets of lace. Nose is toasted grains, coffee, chocolate, earhty and quite pleasant. Sweet at the front, full at the top, the finish is lightly carbonated, dry, nicely hopped and quite a good ’Stout’.

Smooth, a little bitter, did not sense any sweetness though. A nice stout.

Dark beer out of the bottle with a frothy brown head. Dark malty nose with hints of chocolate and licorice. Pours very thick and leaves great lace. Very smooth mouthfeel that coats the mouth in a very pleasing way. Chocolate with a strong malty sweetness balanced well by the coffee bitterness. Great sipping beer. Thanks a ton to my Secret Santa for this one.

[2nd Low Countries RateBeer meeting] Aroma of chocolate and coffee malts, butterscotch and some cookies. Opaque, black coloured with a lasting brownish head. Taste is sweet, roasted malty, some hops and a very pleasant coffeebitter finish. Medium body. Lovely brew!

From a 341 ml. twist off bottle with a short blurb on the back label, no freshness date. Poured a dark chocolate brown with a foamy, creamy tan head, good retention and a fair amount of laced sticking. Aromas of chocolate covered dark fruit, a little banana bread, and subtle coffee. Good moderate carbonation and crisp, velvety smooth medium bodied mouthfeel. Tastes of roasted malts, coffee and chocolate, with a nice oatmeal sweetness, a light fruitiness with some mocha towards the end, a very soft hop bitterness and a sweet, roasted malty finish. One of the best oatmeal stouts I’ve personally tasted, really nice on cold November day, easy, quaffable drinkability, very recommended. Acquired in a trade with Sammy, many thanks for this one!

Wow! That is a beer isn’t it? Dark dark dark brown to black with a healthy dark tan head, thinning quickly. That thing smells like a stout too! Roast so fresh that it is fruity. Really, this is like that fruity acidity you get from a god coffee. Creamy, strangle, despite smelling like a dark cup of coffee. Decent sweetness, level. The mouthfeel is really exceptional for a beer this low in alcohol and really balanced. I mean, this thing is full and creamy, but it isn’t going to get you quite so smashed. Still, it’s not full of unfermented sugars. Or maybe it is? This roast is so intense it could stand up to any malt. Again, there’s a creamy flavor as well as that fruity acidity like in the nose. It’s even better here, in my humble opinion! Cherry? Lingering cherry to oaky finish. This is just a wonderful little beer, I’d drink this for sure if it were local and/or half as much. This kind of reminds me of a slightly more roast heavy, drier Founders Breakfast Stout.

Bottle. Black color with a tall big brown head. The nose is of sweet, creamy chocolate, oats, bright coffee, milk, and almonds. Licorice, oats, raisins, and soft coffee are present in the mouth. This flirts with the definition of a sweet stout. This is mild throughout but still complex and extremely well balanced.

Pours black, with brown head. Excellent lace that diminishes slowly. Smells OK. Tastes of chocolate, molasses and charcoal. Best stout I have ever tried.
