Commercial Description:
St. Ambroise Oatmeal Stout consistently beats out international stouts in blind tastings and competitions. This intensely black ale carries strong hints of espresso and chocolate. The oatmeal contributes body and ensures a long-lasting mocha-coloured head. If you like stout, you will love St. Ambroise Oatmeal Stout.

On Draught @ TFOB 2006. Well it pains me to rate a stout this high as I am not a stout fan, but I must give credit where credit is due. Appearance is everything a stout should be, Think black body with a head that is VERY creamy and deep tan in colour. Aroma of chocolate, coffee and toffee. Taste a complex combination of bitter chocolate, toffee and heavy roasted coffee. Surprisingly easy on the aftertaste and not so heavy that I felt like I just ate an entire meal. It was the perfect stout.

341ml bottle. Pours dark, dark, dark with a small dark amber head. Metallic, with lots of cocoa and espresso on the nose. Some vanilla. As for taste, lots of dark malt, and espresso. A little maple, (something minty?) and lots of hops in the finish.

340ml bottle. Pours bitch black with a massive tan head that lasted the whole glass. Aroma was roasty with chocolate. Overall this is an excellent stout for any winter day.

Bottle from bitbucket. Dark black pour, decent 1/2 inch cookie colored head and a nice, but subdued aroma of creamy chocolate. Flavor is bitter roasted malts, coffee and finished very dry. Very good, I’d pick up some of this if I can find it locally.

11.5oz twist off, no dates. Looks VERY hefty for 5%, black with tan foam, very nice retention and exceptional lacing. Rich malt aromas, espresso, mocha, maybe a hint of butterscotch. Butterscotch, roasted barley and some ashy-ness. Big letdown after that pour and aroma. Chewy mouthfeel and lots of bitterness on the tail end.

Aroma dark, deep, and like wine. Dry and yet with a sweet-smelling quality lingering...rich and full and yet with a lightness and refreshing quality to it. For once, I think a top-ranked beer is not over-rated. This beer is truly outstanding!

Black, medium crema head. Coffee and bitter chocolate nose. Singed flavours. Sweet and singed malts and vanilla. Just medium bodied - it’s pretty light for the style, particularly considering the oats. Dry finish. This is not a particularly complex beer: it just has a few things that work together very harmoniously. Neither (for a stout) is it an attention-grabber - more of an intimate caress. Great.

Bottle sent by ben4321 in a trade. Thanks, Ben, this was a good one. Pours black in color with a one-finger beige head that leaves a little film on the beer after awhile. Aroma is roast, chocolate, and coffee. Pretty typical for an oatmeal stout. Flavor is very interesting. Starts out as a pretty standard but well-balanced stout with chocolate and espresso notes. Then the roast really hits you. Really gets intense in the finish. There’s also a nice oatmeal/milk character in there. Palate is smooth but fairly light. This is not a terrible thing, as it adds to the drinkability. Leaves a little char in your mouth.
