Nose is amazing for a beer this low in ABV. All raisins and Coffee. In the mouth its a little thin and a bit heavy on the burnt coffee aftertaste. Well made beer but pales in comparison to the sam smith version.

| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Dec 24, 2009 Bottle from bitbucket. Dark black pour, decent 1/2 inch cookie colored head and a nice, but subdued aroma of creamy chocolate. Flavor is bitter roasted malts, coffee and finished very dry. Very good, I’d pick up some of this if I can find it locally. mtoast (312), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 4/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Dec 21, 2009 11.5oz twist off, no dates. Looks VERY hefty for 5%, black with tan foam, very nice retention and exceptional lacing. Rich malt aromas, espresso, mocha, maybe a hint of butterscotch. Butterscotch, roasted barley and some ashy-ness. Big letdown after that pour and aroma. Chewy mouthfeel and lots of bitterness on the tail end. cazort (419), Newark, Delaware, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Dec 17, 2009 Aroma dark, deep, and like wine. Dry and yet with a sweet-smelling quality lingering...rich and full and yet with a lightness and refreshing quality to it. For once, I think a top-ranked beer is not over-rated. This beer is truly outstanding! hawthorne00 (133), Australia
| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 19/20 | Dec 17, 2009 Black, medium crema head. Coffee and bitter chocolate nose. Singed flavours. Sweet and singed malts and vanilla. Just medium bodied - it’s pretty light for the style, particularly considering the oats. Dry finish. This is not a particularly complex beer: it just has a few things that work together very harmoniously. Neither (for a stout) is it an attention-grabber - more of an intimate caress. Great. nickd717 (1387), Palo Alto, California, USA

Pours black in color with a one-finger beige head that leaves a little film on the beer after awhile.
Aroma is roast, chocolate, and coffee. Pretty typical for an oatmeal stout.
Flavor is very interesting. Starts out as a pretty standard but well-balanced stout with chocolate and espresso notes. Then the roast really hits you. Really gets intense in the finish. There’s also a nice oatmeal/milk character in there.
Palate is smooth but fairly light. This is not a terrible thing, as it adds to the drinkability. Leaves a little char in your mouth. guil0000 (107), New Brunswick, Canada

| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Dec 7, 2009 Dark opaque brown with a thick creamy beige head and solid lacing.
Aroma of cocoa powder and burnt coffee beans.
Tastes of bitter chocolate and caramel, not much of a finish, which was the only thing preventing a 4.5 taste rating.
Positively chewy, excellent body.
Classic example of the style, well worth seeking out. TheCaptain (559), Lancaster, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Dec 7, 2009 Bottle, poured a coffee black into a chalice. Small sudsy head which simmered to a ring around the glass. Aroma of light roasted malts, meal and liquorice. Taste is a slight roast, dark chocolate espresso with some light chalky bitterness. Espresso oatmeal body, a little thin which as it warms up is tasting pretty good.
